The Passage by Justin Cronin
I know the starting date is the 5th, but I decided to start early. To anyone who has started this, I was wondering if anyone else thinks of Swan Song when you read about Amy and Lacey? For some reason I see some similarities there.

I believe Carrion Comfort was one of them, also one of the heaviest books I've ever read.
Agreed on the pacing thing. Whoever wants to do it that way is welcome to but some days I read a 100 pages, others I don't read at all. I guarantee I'll be either a little ahead or a little behind.

I told myself it was time for some light reading after Dead Sea, which was no novella itself, so I started Joyland yesterday. I was right. It seems like fluff. This one here is going to be a monster!
I did the same today Adam, and shot through I am not a serial killer by Dan Wells. It was less than 300 pages which is short compared to most of the books we've been reading. I've got a lot of long ones on my list already! I reckon I'll go with the spoiler tags:-)
I'm about 4% in and my kindle is telling me not to plan anything for the next thirty hours or so. I am liking it from the start though. The writing style alone is keeping me glued. This Cronin guy is pretty good.

Yes, Eleven! Glad I'm not the only one who keeps picturing Swan Song, which was another great read as well. I too could spend a few hours in this book. Sometimes I just lose track of time with this one.
I've not read swan song yet, its on my tbr pile. But the relationship that Amy and Lacy fell is powerful. I think they both feel a strong connection from the start. What do you think of Wolgast? He's such a sad man, but I feel sorry for Carter as well. He hasn't even done anything wrong!
So Swan Song is huge and another epic read from Mccammon. Only my second book I've read from him. I have like six others waiting for me...lol.
20%(view spoiler)Turning in early. Can't even read my head just feels so clouded over. I think Angie gave me the flu...lol:) J\K
10%. Loving just about every storyline so far. Something about the inmate Anthony Carter struck me as exceedingly creepy. Dunno why.
Finally got a few hours of reading in today and made it to page 64 (chapter 4). I saw the Swan Song comparisons and concur. There is a hint of dread mounting as the characters are being drawn for us. I can tell Cronin is a good author. I don't want to put down my Nook. I know I have to get up early for a doctor appointment, but it is hard to stop reading.
I'm with you, Andy... on the matter of Carter. He doesn't remind me of a teddy bear at all. I can't pin it down yet, either, but that boy isn't right.
Maybe he will grow on us in the coming chapters. I could read this all night, but won't. Early morning as well.
I wish I was at home reading. I'm taking a condensed and sped up Winterim class and it meets from 5:30-9:00.Poopy
In light of recent developments, I have definitely had a change of heart about Anthony Carter. His blankness is of innocence, not creepiness.
That's true Andy, I think that's why I was liking him so much, its his innocence. And the thing is Wolgast knew this. But I love Wolgast. The way Justin Cronin writes is amazing and this book has me so emotional. It makes me cry so I can't read it in front of people, lol.
Yes, I didn't find Carter creepy at all, but that may change. Of course whatever they do with Carter is not really him anymore.
I'm at about the same place as you, Adam. Very well-written, but very heavy going (for me) with the description of minutae. I finished a whole other book in the time it too me to read 100 pages of this!
Addy, sorry I'm at part three not two. Oops! Sorry!! So forget all I said, and I'll read more of my other books till you catch up. My kids are grown it means I can read without a schedule, even my grandson is 14! Blimy I'm getting old:-) shall I delete my last comment?

Yep, that's me skiing. Or at least standing near the top of a mountain in Niseko, Japan, and contemplating how badly I'm going to hurt myself on the way down ;-)
Probably shouldn't hijack the thread with talk of skiing, but I guarantee you're far better at it than I am!
