Here's where to nominate for the read for January - I am running a little late this month so nominations will only run until 30th December.

I'll start with nominating A Gate at the Stairs by Lorrie Moore which I think someone nominated before but I still like the look of it!!

Val I nominate:
Half Blood Blues by Esi Edugyan
Half Blood Blues by Esi Edugyan.
I first read it when it made that year's Booker prize list and thought it was very good.

Diane S ☔ That is one I have wanted to read Val. Good choice.

Janine | 80 comments Is there a list of books that the group has already read? I'm new and don't want to be nominating books you've recently covered. My suggestions are:
The Lacuna or Wolf Hall

Penny has put all the 2013 and archive books on the group bookshelves. You can see the ones we have read and those we are currently reading there. They also show up if you page down from the Group home page.
We have not read either The Lacuna or Wolf Hall as a group yet.

Janine | 80 comments Thanks Val. I'm happy to go with any of the nominated books. (I just happen to have Wolf Hall and Lacuna sitting on my bookshelf waiting to be picked up...).
:)

if you click on bookshelf it will show you the lists of books and also what is on the 'read' shelf. We have only been going a few months so there's not many on there yet!!
Also some people may have already read certain books but that is always the case in groups so dont worry about that side of it - if it hasnt been a 'group' read you can nominate it.

I was on my way here to nominate The Song of Achilles but I see that someone has already nominated it. :)

Val It is good to discuss the books with the group even when we have read them before ourselves. Both of yours are good enough to read twice Janine.
Do you want to nominate both of them, or one this month and one for February?

message 12: by Janine (new)

Janine | 80 comments I'll nominate the Lacuna. Thanks.

Janine | 80 comments Thanks for the suggestions, Penny. I was viewing in the app and couldn't see the bookshelf, but have logged into the website and can now see it.

Val Wolf Hall is one of the kindle deals today, for anyone in the UK.

Val We have a three way tie at the moment.
Has anyone not voted yet?

there are 7 total votes on the non-Archive poll and 6 on the archive poll so it looks like at least one person hasn't voted on the archive poll.

yes I noticed that - anyone out there not voted yet please add your vote so we get a winner!!!

Ruthie (ruthiea) | 70 comments Not letting me vote anymore, I would have chosen Wolf Hall...

message 19: by Val (new)

Val Hello Penny.
An executive decision is required, please.
We can nominate the losers again next month.

OK - as we have a tie I will have to simply decide which book to do this month - sorry! Let's hope we can get a few more people to vote next month. I have decided to go with Half Blood Blues as Val has already read it and recommends it! Hope you are all OK with this!
