Question about mortal instruments and infernal devices

There is tons of charecter development. There is lots of sarcastic humor, and they are fun to read. I would read the mortal instruments first, then the infernal devices.
all birds are evil they really will eat anything even your fingers! Curse you universe for creating such blasphemous spawns of the devil!!!!
You should first read The Infernal Devices, you get more insight about the characters in The Mortal Instruments, and the feels...
You do benefit from it if you read all of Cassie's books, because they all somewhat interlink, but it depends in what order you read them in. Clockwork Angel is obviously the first book you want to read.
Then Clockwork Prince.
Then Clockwork Princess. The epilogue of CP2 takes place during City of Heavenly Fire, so maybe it'd be best if you read CP2 and left the epilogue until after CoLS.
I read them both and then proceeded to go back and get all the inside jokes and stuff! Plus I love to reread them!
Okay my question is the when mundanes drink from the mortal cup and become shadowhunters do they pick a new shadowhunter last name or do they keep their original one???
There are different ways one might ascend. Like through marriage, harbouring a Shadowhunter name and then ascending. I think after they ascend, they can choose any Shadowhunter name, right? I don't have the Codex, but the only ones I've known to ascend are through marriage (Sophie ascended and later married Gideon, thus her becoming a Lightwood.)
Read the first 5 TMI books first then read the entire TID series and then read City of Heavenly Fire.
What I did was read the first 3 TMI books then the TID books, then the last 3 TMI. That way you knew the characters from TMI and a bit of their backgrounds, and then the last 3 TMI it is definitely helpful to have background info. =)
The book has lots of development for sure.I would read The Infernal Devices first but it really doesn't matter much except for City of Heavenly Fire.
And yes this book has a lot of fighting actin and humor.
Hoped it helped:)
hey shamina! I read TMI first! Idk why but I think it's better that way... maybe cause she wrote them first! it does have lots of action and funny moments! they are amazing!
OK - here is my question. Throughout all the book it is mentioned that when another species is mixed with Shadowhunter that the Shadowhunter blood is always dominate. However that does not seem to be the case with Tessa. Is she considered a Shadowhunter because of her blood - or is she considered a Shadowhunter because she married Will or is she not ever considered a Shadowhunter at all. Thoughts?
There are mentions/appearances by a couple characters from TID starting from the third book of TMI, so I would agree with Alerson. For people that want to start the Shadowhunter chronicles, read up to City of Glass in tmi, then the three books in tid, and then the rest of tmi. It definitely helps you to enjoy the series more!
Dianna- Tessa isn't considered a Shadowhunter at all. In tmi, Jocelyn referred to her as a "special warlock", and I don't think she can be a Shadowhunter if even her mother wasn't an official one (plus her father was a Greater Demon, so many Shadowhunters probably wouldn't want her to be considered as one of them.)
Tessa is considered a warlock, or a Downworlder. And even though she is technically part-Shadowhunter, she isn't considered one.
Safiya, you are suggesting Tessa couldnt be a shadowhunter because her mother wasnt considered one... but Will and Cicly are Shadowhunters even though neither parent was one. (yes the father had been but left and therefore not a shadowhunter anymore). And again i question where they say Shadowhunter blood is dominate AND technically she should have "ascended" when she and Will married...right?
Jem told Tessa that Shadowhunter blood is dominant. But even so, those with a fey bloodline mixed in with that could cause unique abilities like they of Tessa's shape-shifting and James's turning into a shadow.
Hi guys, I have a huge problem so I hope you can help me. :) I'm currently reading City of Ashes... I didn't quiet enjoy City of Bones as much as everyone else and neither am I enjoying this book so far... like it IS better but I still can't get into the story.. the only reason I want to continue on is Simon, ahaha. So yeah, the question is, does the series get better after the first two books or am I just weird??? Please let me know, because I'm wondering about getting the rest of the series for Christmas but now I'm not quiet sure if it's a good idea. Thanks!!
Your not weird ;D I feel the same way about the series. Like it was good but not as amazing as everybody claimed it was. I agree with you city of ashes is a bit better than city of bones and city of glass is kind of The same way. In my opinion each book gets better but they're still not incredible and I think city of heavenly fire doesn't get any better than the rest. If you are like me though you should try reading The Inferno Devices which is the prequel to the mortal Instruments. Now that series was really good and it deserved all the hype it got! Way better then the mortal instruments!! Hope that helps ;D.
The story progresses with each book. It gets better. City of Glass will blow you away. Literally. It's explosive, as is City of Heavenly Fire. Read on, and definitely have a read of The Infernal Devices. By the angel, that trilogy changed my life!
Ahhhh thanks guys! :)) I am about to buy Clockwork Angel so I'm excited about that! Hope I will enjoy it. :)
Do you guys prefer TID over TMI? I can only speak for myself, but I think TID is more complex than TMI, if that makes sense.
It's impossible to choose between them, for me. The Infernal Devices has always seemed more concrete and serious to me, but I think that's due to TMI being set in contemporary life whereas TID is set in a very difficult time for the characters. I loved both series, nonetheless.
Guys, you remember that quote in the infernal devices "freely we serve because we freely love as in our will..." Where was this quote i mean which book?
MissMorgenstern wrote: "It was the closing speech of CoHF."Yes it is but it was on the infernal devices too
Michaela wrote: "Hi guys, I have a huge problem so I hope you can help me. :) I'm currently reading City of Ashes... I didn't quiet enjoy City of Bones as much as everyone else and neither am I enjoying this book s..."I think they get better as they go. City of Glass was my favorite.
Itxamara wrote: "Also City of glass is the best"It totally is. Though there are things I Luke about each one CoG is best over all.
I don't know but I feel like CoG is the best because they presented the big dilemma of Sebastian towards the whole "brother & sister" situation between clary and Jace. I just feel like the presentation of Sebastian to the series was impressive and the whole new life that awaits for everyone. I think I love the book because of the big changes they present, it reveals the new true real life changes we all face. One day it can be all peaceful and then it can turn to complete disaster full of new things you have to live with.
It's called The Bane Chronicles. There are 11 short stories, I think. They were released once a month until November, when a paperback edition of all the stories was released.

You can read The Infernal Devices before you read The Mortal Instruments if you want to. It doesn't really matter considering they take place so far apart. Personally I'd recommend reading TMI first then TID, I think TMI goes into more detail on the mythology and the world building. But it's up to you.
