Several of our talented members are working on novels, short stories, plays, films, and more that either tie directly to Haruki Murakami or have been heavily influenced by Murakami.

Feel free to use this folder to promote and discuss your own work! We'd love to hear about your projects.

Yu Sheng Teo | 9 comments Hello! This comes at quite a nice timing! =)

I'm currently writing a short story on Murakami's Hardboiled Wonderland & the End of the World! It's a continuation of the novel, inspired after reading Murakami's spin-off of Kafka's Metamorphosis. (http://www.newyorker.com/fiction/feat...)

*SPOILERS*

Ok, this might not really be a spoiler, but it might spoil the ending for those who haven't read the novel yet. I'm playing with the idea of the protagonist rescuing both himself and the librarian from the End of the World, after he 'abandoned' his shadow at the Pool.

I'm not done writing it yet, but I'll share it here when it is! =)

C.J. (cjmarsicano) | 2 comments I actually have a book OUT already - have had one for the past eighteen months - and since Haruki Murakami is one of my inspirations as a writer, and is listed as such in the book's acknowledgements, I'll mention it briefly here.

The book is called RESONANT BLUE. It is listed here on Goodreads, it's on my own book label, and I have just a few copies of the original hardcover book edition left. Otherwise, the e-book edition is easily found in the usual major places for just three bucks, so if you just got a Kindle, iPad, or nook for the holidays... ;)

Simon Wilson (spwilson) | 4 comments My writing is influenced by Murakami. My debut novella, End Credits (See You When The World Ends), has just been published as an ebook. It's a quirky tale of life, love and strange dreams involving mirrors. It is listed here on Goodreads if anyone fancies taking a look.

Virginia Murakami gave me permission to play with the surreal to inform on the real. I'm running a Title Survey to choose the title for the book, the first of series (to be published in May). The five best responses win the whole series.

Kirsten Krauth (kirstenkrauth) | 4 comments I have a novel that was released last year called just_a_girl. A number of characters in the book (including a Japanese man, Tadashi) are reading Murakami's book The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle. Parts of the story are very highly influenced by Murakami's style...and the characters riff off some of his ideas. It's contemporary literary fiction for adults...

Here's more info on the book if you are interested. Very excited by this discussion.

Yu Sheng Teo | 9 comments Hello everyone! =) I've posted here a while back about a short story that I was writing (you see my post if you scroll up ^^), and now I'm done! I've just finished writing the short story, called "Back to Hard-boiled Wonderland", which is based on Murakami's "Hard-boiled Wonderland and the End of the World". My story is basically a spin-off of the novel, and continues where the story left off. You can read the short story here! http://wp.me/p2MZdu-i9

I was inspired to write this story after reading Murakami's "Samsa in Love", which is itself a spin-off of Franz Kafka's "Metamorphosis". (If you haven't read them both, you should, because they're freaking awesome! =) )

Anyway, I hope that you guys will like my story! Comments and feedback are welcome! =)

Alex | 23 comments My novel Nakamura Reality sold to The Permanent Press a few months ago. It will be published in January 2016. I based one of my characters on Murakami (a surrealist Japanese novelist with a global following). Writing the novel took six years. I think I did something else during that time, but I don't remember.
