Were you listening to Pleased to Meet Me? That's a great album!" How did you guess Janie? ;-)

Both Replacement songs you named are on that album. I like The Ledge.

Yeah I am a fan of all of them.
One of the best concerts I ever saw was in Memphis around 2008 or so (just before Alex Chilton died). Paul Westerberg, Alex, Prince's drummer, the bassist from Son Volt, and a couple other don't remember played at this little place called The New Daisy Theatre. After playing for what seemed forever and most everyone left, they came back and sat on the couch and played some more. Alex played lead guitar on Can't Hardly Wait and it was heaven. If you like Alex Chilton you can't go wrong with the Best of Alex Chilton from 1991, and my favorite, 1999's Loose Shoes and Tight Pussy.

I'm embarrased to say that I haven't listened to much Big Star or Alex Chilton.

This past Christmas I bought my best friend A Man Called Destruction: The Life And Music of Alex Chilton. I'll probably have to read it once he's done.

Not (hate 'em). Like 'em! Is it just me, or does some of this sound a little like Tom Verlaine and Television?

You won't regret--I don't think, although not 100% sure I know your musical tastes. But anybody who loves Steely Dan can't be all bad. I would say this is mostly a bunch of love songs but they're beautiful. Definitely worthy of a spot in your collection.
I've heard Marquee Moon and thought it was great but that's all I've heard. Actually I don't think Alex liked Tom. Alex was working with The Cramps of all bands, who hated everybody except the Ramones and when Alex wasn't happy with their sound he would tell them they sounded like Television. http://goo.gl/WhH92q

Memphis was once to rock and blues like what Nashville was to country, when country was still country. Not so much anymore. Lot's of tragedy there. Anyway. The book would probably be very good.

I can definitely hear the similarities. Television sounds more polished. Alex Chilton I think was more chaotic and always looking for the next thing. They did have connections tho.

Oh, now I remember what kink of bad you are: the Steely Dan lover bad. Sorry

I'm glad you like it, Stephen. C.C. has that Bowie sound, imo.
Dredg - Leitmotif
Janie saw this on the cover of a book today (Dead Titans, Waken! by Donald Wandrei ). http://snag.gy/akkiy.jpg
Jefferson Airplane’s Paul Kantner dies at 74. Jeez! At this rate there'll be nobody left but Keith Richards.
