I have really been listening to the first three chapters over and over. They were the last interesting before the fire of Notre Dame, but now they are the most interesting. If Notre Dame was a symbol this book may wish to define that symbol. It is interesting that the book starts by talking about a fire at Notre Dame. Also that the Spire was added in the restoration of 1848 which Hugo played a part in raising money, along with Rothschild.
Hugo believed that poets were a driving force to create change in the world. What change did he seek to manipulate in this book? Lot of good for thought.
