SOLVED! YA fantasy/sci-fi, time travel in dreams to 'save' history, blue-haired guide, immortals? [s]

There was a young adult fantasy I read two or three years ago. The book itself shouldn't be too old. I don't remember a thing about the cover, but I believe the book was rather thin and it was the first in a series.

I can't remember -any- character's name. The main character is probably a high school freshman who frequently aggravates his history teacher. When he was a child, he met an immortal person by a mountain? who had a young face with blue hair, and took him under his wing. The boy still lives at his normal house, but his parents don't know a thing about what's going on.

In his dreams, he will visit some upper realm with the blue-haired guy, and go into the past in order to chase off baddies who are trying to alter history to their benefit. I remember that the upper realm has a court full of immortals who can read minds or emotions, or something like that. The main character had to visit them before.

The main character also knows a girl who seems to be his love interest and gets involved in the time-travelling chaos somehow. Her family is very dysfunctional, I think. There's some drama with her brother.

It all sounds nuts, haha..I guess that's why I want to find it again :P
