So here's where we can compare characters similar to Nico from other books. Other dark, mysterious characters with low self esteem? Or maybe characters who look like Nico but act totally different from him?

Anubis from the Kane Chronicles.
They look about the same, but Anubis is a god, and Nico's not, so Anubis would probably have higher self esteem.
Anubis is also the god of death and whatnot, so they might have the same death-obsession in common.
