ABANDONED. Book about a couple of kids rowing to a small island in the middle of a lake. Something about a key?

So there were kids, and they were rowing to an island (the "bad guy" may have been taking them there). There is an old stone house there. I think they found a key for it. Maybe there was a cellar involved. Very little to go on. I think I was in the 5th grade when I read this (1992). I remember the word skeleton. Perhaps the key was some sort of skeleton key or it may have had a skull on it. Skull key? I thought it was a bit scary too.

Was it by Enid Blyton? She wrote the Famous Five series, Secret Seven series and a no. of other mystery books. Do you know how many children there were? or anything else about them ?

The first Famous Five Five on a Treasure Island has them rowing to an island with underground "dungeons" for the castle ruins.

Only thing is that the island was just of the coast of England, it wasn't in a lake.
