Alex I loved everything about Allegiant except the end. Then I had all happiness drained from my very soul.

Sabelle Lara Yup, very disappointed. I love Divergent and Insurgent. But Allegiant just fell flat for me. It's like the author is just looking for an excuse to have a major, epic character have a major, epic death. Only, she didn't. I like the fact that Tris would sacrifice herself for Caleb. But that doesn't make the term 'Tris-like death' mean 'an honorable, worthy death'. For me, it's more like 'an unnecessary, out-of-nowhere, killed-by-a-nobody kind of death'.

Mia I cried for days because of the ending to this book. - I practically ruined it for myself though, due to the fact I accidentally read about what happened to Tris! I don't understand why Verronica had to end the book like that. There was practically nobody left, as most of the main characters had died. And Uriah! I just feel empty now. The unsatisfying ending to the series has left me upset and confused. Veronica Roth could at least have let Tris survive to see Tobias one last time just before she died. I also feel that the character perspectives were to similar, and Tobias' mysterious personality was ruined in Allegiant. He was too -I don't know- not Tobias I guess. I wish Tris had survived and now i'm just going to have to read multiple amounts of Divergent fanfiction to stop me from crying again.

Ricardo Totally.

Marianne After 5 guilt stricken months, I have finally decided to finish off Allegiant. I've been struggling to finish this for a whole week. And I've been dying to say this: "Allegiant is a disappointing end to Divergent!"

Here are the ff reasons:

1.) To tell you the truth, I was not upset about Tris' death but the whole book itself. There was an endless list of new characters added from time to time along with their inside stories that makes it so boring. There's Johanna, Nita, Matthew, Rafi, Zoe, David, Mary, Reggie, Amar, Amy etc. And it all comes down with Matthew and Johanna who actually played a significant part for the ending.

2. The book is filled with unnecessary scenes that doesn't contribute entirely to the story. If you would try to omit some of it, it wouldn't actually affect the whole sequence of the novel.
(i.e. When Tobias and Nita visited the fringe)

3. Also, I always get a major headache on grasping the whole GD and GP issue. I just don't understand what they are really planning to do in the first place!!! All the characters have their own solutions in their mind and when they start rejecting the ideas of the other, they tend to come up with a secret agenda which always end up unsuccessful.

4. And the EPILOGUE! Gawd! It was the worst last chapters of my life! I could really imagine myself screaming at Tobias to stop being so overly dramatic (with all his failed suicidal attempt) and to just end his boring narration.
Roth could've just summarized it in just one chapter without all those funeral procession in the zip line thing.

I can't help but compare Tahereh Mafi's Shatter Me trilogy. It was so straight to the point and a real page turner unlike this one.

I was actually planning to give dystopian novels a chance. But after reading this, Allegiant totally ruined it.

Neha Marianne:

"...I was not upset about Tris' death but the whole book itself..."

That's it, really. It's still a bad taste in my mouth, especially since it begun so well, with book 1. It was truly different, and now it's a confusing memory when I join it up with Allegiant, which just doesn't match up. There is just not that much invention. feels like the author lost her own plot.

Or rather, gave up her own for something else.

While I agree with most of your post, Johanna first appeared in Insurgent.

Kalley SPOILER ALERT
I was really disappointed....
1. She shouldn't of killed Tris off.
2. Why would Tobias even think of forgiving his mom after she abandoned him.
3.There really wasn't anything in their relationship in this novel it was just like they were normal teenager... which was not the case at all.
4. I want to know what would happen if she would of lived.

The concept that I did kind of like those is him spreading Tris's ashes because since she was trying to get him over some of his fears anyway and he just so happens that he spread the ashes with his fear of heights involved.

My grandmother didn't even finish the book... she skipped to the end to see what happens and she didn't want to go back and read the whole thing to just have that happen. Now she doesn't even want to watch the last movie if they make it.

message 59: by Kuruneku (new)

Kuruneku Tris and Tobias are both annoying in this book. I couldn't count the number where Tris wants to punch someone in the face and Tobias whining like a little girl.

There is also kissing, kissing, kissing and more kissing and more kissing. Yeah last time I checked this is not Fifty Shades of Grey which is an oky book btw.

The two povs is confusing. Honestly I couldn't tell who's head I was reading. Tobias is whinny like a little girl being shit scared of his dad, scared, scared shit. Tris is annoying bitch who wants to punch or threatens someone in every page.

The problem is that this book lacked the brilliance of the first 2 book not the fact that Tris died. Honestly I don't care if Tris dies or lives. I don't care at all. I love Tris in the first 2 books but she's a bitch and an annoying little girl acting like an adult in this book.

I'm glad that she died. Good riddance.

After reading this book I fired up Fallout New Vegas. I made an NPC mod named Tobias and Tris. I put them in the game and shot them in the head. Good way to kill annoying characters who made me waste my time reading this terrible book.

Sentí tu mismo dolor. Pero tiene sentido. Aún siento algo en el estómago al recordarlo... ;(

PJ Not at all disappointed. So glad to see a y/a author with courage to present a female that is her own hero, and to present the reality of what it means to become a grown up with integrity to put everything on the line for what you believe in---vs. "ending up with the guy and living happily ever after." Young ladies out there, find yourselves and a life that, all on your own is worth dying for because then it is worth living for, and worthy of sharing with someone else as well.

message 62: by James (new)

James I was pretty disappointed in this book because it felt like the author was running out of the ideas and the story felt bland at times instead of exciting. Also, the POV's of Tris and Four made the book not fun to read at times.

Hayley I agree it was very lacking. I kept waiting for something to happen, it was a page turner for all the wrong reasons. I still found it interesting but it was just empty. The only point where I really enjoyed what was happening was towards the end of the novel, I thought the ending was great. I find it annoying that people are simply hating on it because of Tris' death, not because of the bland story writing.

I feel like Roth is great at writing intense, action-filled scenes, but other than that it's kind of boring??? I don't know how to explain it. I guess I was generous with the 3 star rating because I loved the characters and universe so much. I was too generous. This last instalment was a let down, I was expecting something big, I was excited to find out what being divergent really meant, but it fell flat. It was underwhelming, as was the rest of the novel :/

I totally agree about Tobias being whiny. I much preferred Four to Tobias.
I struggled to figure out what I didn't like so much about this one, and I came to think the thing I liked least about is that it just seemed so laid-back compared to the others.
And the switching between the voice of Tobias and Tris took a lot of getting used to.

I as well was very disappointed by this book. I mean through out reading it I sort of expected it to end the way it did but what I think really piqued me about the book was the fact that Tris in my opinion made dumb decisions. I mean yes she did very noble acts and etc but I don't think she fully evaluated her situations. An maybe that's possibly because she was only 16 but still.

Gwen it seems that everyone is disappointed with Allegiant. I LOVE Tris as well as Tobias.
it definitely would had been a happy story without having Tris dead, but if she didn't die, the stroy had to be dragged on and on about their lives and a society that we live now and i will not find that story interesting.
