I definitely feel sorry for the girl. I wish her mother was still alive. I wonder why the father thinks it is such a good idea to marry a dead person, but the Amah doesn't. Would she get the status of the richer family? Maybe he just doesn't want to be responsible for his daughter any more.
It has to be hard to have been rich and now live almost in poverty. His drug addiction doesn't help either.

I think it is a little creepy that the dead son is coming to her in her dreams. Do you know if there are any really old traditions of marrying relatives after the death of your husband in her culture? Maybe if she decides to become the widow of the dead man, she can then have a relationship with the cousin who she seems to like.

I started a full time job this week, so I've had little time to read. I plan on getting a lot more done this weekend. Sorry about that. Not used to having so little free time.

(just in case you read this post before continuing the book)(view spoiler)
Nothing seems to go right for this girl, I can't help wishing the book was set in more modern times so she would have many more choices about what to do with her life. I am glad she has Amah in her life to give her someone who loves her.

I felt so sad that there was an engagement but then it was taken away. She certainly struggles in life.
And the ghost is really creepy. He freaks me out.

Now it makes me wonder, though, how the title actually references her. I hope nothing really bad happens to her.
