2014 Authors After Dark Challenge Questions/Comments

Author After Dark Convention (AAD) is taking place in Charlotte, North Carolina from August 6th to August 10th, 2014. Fran came up with a great challenge to make us a part of the convention. More information on the convention can be found at Authors After Dark Romance Convention

Duration: January 1 2014 - December 31, 2014.

There are 5 levels for this challenge. Each level has 5 books that need to be read. You can read 1-5 levels. But you must read all 5 books to complete a level. You do not need to complete a level to start another one. You may start out small and add on as you wish. Or start out big and reduce as needed :)

✩ You may only read books by the authors listed in message 2 and/or from the list on the convention's website. ***The list of authors are going to be changing, with more authors that will be attending and/ or authors that might come off the list, but we will allow them to be used.

✩ You may use an author more than once, but for different categories, and a title can only be used once for the entire challenge.
✩ NO minimum page requirement.


Level 1: Read 1 category, 5 books
Level 2: Read 2 categories, 10 books
Level 3: Read 3 categories, 15 books
Level 4: Read 4 categories, 20 books
Level 5: Read 5 categories, 25 books

Categories:

A. Read a book for each of the following sub-categories of romance. You may use an author only once.
1. Western
2. Sci-Fi/Dystopian
3. PNR
4. Contemporary
5. Historical

B. Read a book with the following items on the cover.
1. an animal (any kind)
2. a guy
3. a girl
4. a couple
5. jewelery/jewels

C. Read a book with the following items on the cover.
1. a moon
2. water
3. clouds
4. a weapon
5. a vehicle

D. The AAD will be held in Charlotte, NC. Here are some facts about Charlotte and the task...
1. Charlotte is the largest city in NC - read a book with over 300 pages.
2. Charlotte is the home of the NASCAR Hall of Fame - read a book with a race car driver or car on the cover, or with a character who drives fast.
3. Charlotte is nicknamed 'The Queen City' - Read a book with a Queen in it, a historical, or a female character who is in charge of her life and/or others' lives.
4. Charlotte is a major financial U.S. financial center - Read a book with a wealthy character, or takes place in the banking industry, or where a character's finances are important to the story.
5.The Taste of Charlotte food festival - draws more than 150,000 people to Center City each June to experience a wide array of family activities, live music and fantastic food from the area’s hottest restaurants. (I am adding this one because Dee, Jane and I went to The Taste of D.C. together last month! We had so much fun :) Read a book that center around the food industry, a bar/saloon, has a character that is a chef, food critic, bartender, or someone who just loves to eat or drink!

E. In honor of Alexandra Ivy, the Master of Ceremonies for the AAD Conference in 2014 - Read 5 PNR/UF/Fantasy titles, using an author only once.

No, its a different convention that is happening apart from Romantic Times. RT Convention will be in New Orleans in May, but they are not being used for next year's challenge.
