Yes without the monthly criteria you could read it all in the first half of the year or the last half if you wanted:) Your choice basically!

Yes, exactly. :)
I like the way this challenge is set out too - although it does leave me with a big decision - without any structure, how do I decide which one to start with?!!And Phrynne, I'm the same as you - I've worked out a tentative list (that still needs to be trimmed as I've got about 27 books on it, which probably isn't very realistic!), and from memory about 3 of my authors are male! But I had forgotten about The Street Sweeper, which I saw in Elaine's list, being by an Australian man so I'll try to work that one in. I think that I probably just prefer women authors, in general.

That's why we get you all to link your books:) We pick up so many authors/books we hadn't thought about, or even knew of! It works:D

It does work - sometimes a little too well since my TBR never seems to get any shorter!! But good fun to see what other people are reading and then what they think of their books when they're done!

Christina, [book:They're a Weird Mob|3773968] by Nino Culotta ...I read this book many years ago in my teens and LMAO all the way through it!! It is such a great, innocent take on the Aussie and migrant relationship at that time.
I wouldn't mind revisiting it myself :)

My TBR grows rapidly for this reason too Kathryn!

I'm still going to allocate my books to the 12 months of the year like we did last year. I like structure and this will spread the books out and give me chance to do other challenges and keep my TBR list under control!
I think this a fantastic challenge! Flexibility on timing over the year and a range of targets. It's a great opportunity for me to read Australian authors that I have thus far neglected.

I hope you are well versed in Aussie slang as you will need that voice as you read it ;)

Phyrnne and Kathryn make me feel better as I don't read a lot of male authors either. Funnily enough though I read a lot of male poets. Tell me how that works? So I may sneak a couple of poetry books in when I do my list.
I actually do read quite a lot of male authors from around the world - in fact all my favourite books have male authors. I just don't seem to find many Australian male authors that I want to read. I am sure I will with enough research!!!

If anyone is stuck for suggestions on what to read by Male Authors, I've listed down a few of the stand out books I've read in previous years.
- Historical Murder Mystery
- Literary Fiction, Thrillerand all the John Marsden in the Tomorrow series
and of course the The Street Sweeper & The Slap (but I know the Slap is not everyone's cup of tea)
Phrynne wrote: "I actually do read quite a lot of male authors from around the world - in fact all my favourite books have male authors. Then I looked at my 1 and 2 star reads and unfinished reads and the males outnumber the women (not by as big a factor - only 4 more males than females). But some of the authors on the "good" and "bad" ends of the scale are the same authors as I've loved some of their works and felt other works are very ordinary - both male and female!!
Phrynne wrote: "I actually do read quite a lot of male authors from around the world - in fact all my favourite books have male authors. I just don't seem to find many Australian male authors that I want to read. ..."Yes I am much the same. I noticed when going through my bookshelf picking out books for this challenge, that there is a distinct lack of Male Aussie Authors
I think I've got about 4 men on my list so far (my list is 15 books at the moment, I think) so I must have 11 women! I do like the sound of Bereft, though - but I'm already finding it hard to cut my list down to 12! Maybe I'll just have to try for 16 next year! With the option of adding another 8 books to reach silver level, of course!
@Kathryn I in the same boat. I've got about 5 additional Australian books sitting on my shelf which I'd like to read. Not enough for the silver level. But there's no doubt I will pick up books along the way :)
No doubt, Mish!! So much quicker to add interesting books than to actually read them! I think I would have enough TBR books for the silver level, it's just having time to read them!!
Kathryn wrote: "No doubt, Mish!! So much quicker to add interesting books than to actually read them! I think I would have enough TBR books for the silver level, it's just having time to read them!!"That is so true :)
I have found my classic book - was in the link given in the challenge blurb
They Found A Cave by Nan ChauncyI understand she's a sort of Tasmanian version of Enid Blyton. Anyhow I found an ebook version so happy about that.
I have one of my male authors picked as well - coincidentally I need it for a January book discussion:
Lost Voices by Christopher J. Koch

For classics, I was tossing up between re-reading The Magic Pudding by Norman Lindsay and/or Seven Little Australians by Ethel Turner or reading Dark Places by Kate Grenville or The Women In Black by Madeleine St. John - both of which I found on the link. I feel like I'm cheating a little bit by re-reading, although it is at least 15 years since I read either, probably more! So I might go with re-reading Seven Little Australians and reading The Women In Black.
I think other classics would be A Fortunate Life by Albert B. Facey (it's not a novel, but I'd still call it a classic…) and Cloudstreet by Tim Winton (not that I liked it, but lots of other people seem to!).
For debut novels, I am tossing up between Far Horizon by Tony Park, Helena by Jo-Anne Berthelsen, Burial Rites by Hannah Kent and Promise by Tony Cavanaugh.
Good luck!!
I'm starting at the bronze level but I've got 2 extra books and I just couldn't decide which to remove!!Female authors

Carlie wrote: "Any suggestions for the Historical Fiction?"The ones that I wish I could fit in, but probably won't, are:
Mr Chen's Emporium by Deborah O'Brien, Sunset Ridge by Nicole Alexander, The Independence of Miss Mary Bennet by Colleen McCullough.
And HF was my genre of choice for this year's challenge - I read The Dressmaker by Posie Graeme-Evans 3★, The House At Riverton by Kate Morton 4★ and Lighthouse Bay by Kimberley Freeman 4★. Other standout reads for me were People of the Book by Geraldine Brooks 4★, The Lavender Keeper by Fiona McIntosh 4★ and My Brilliant Career by Miles Franklin 4★.
i'll go for gold. my personal challenge is to read 40 aussie author books nexxt year. and this will be the perfect challenge to keep me motivated. It is quite amazing when you start reading, then when you finish reading realize that the book is from an aussie author. :)

Welcome to the group Carlie! I notice you're new - it's great you're joining us in the challenge too. If you go back to the first post and click on the links, there is one for Historical Fiction which might also help.
If you'd like to introduce yourself here too https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/... the other members would love to welcome you as well!

Would Power without Glory by Frank Hardy be a classic? I read this book years ago, but would read it again. Also is Ruth Park classed as Australian author if she was born in New Zealand (Harp In The South) was my other thought....
