I've never heard of Arthur W. Upfield before!! Is that a terrible thing to admit to? I think I'll have to add one of his books to my TBR - which would you recommend, Nicola and/or Leonie?

Or are all his books part of his Inspector series? So The Barrakee Mystery is the first, by the looks of it?

I think most of them feature Detective Inspector Napoleon Bonaparte, Kathryn. They've been around for a fair while, so you might need to read them with that in mind, but they were unbelievably progressive when written, because Napoleon Bonaparte is an indigenous Australian character.
I don't remember reading them in any particular order, just read them as often as I could find one :)

I read all of them when I was a kid and loved them - as mentioned they are a sign of the times (1940/50s) and that does need to taken into account with the language and attitudes. But if you are a person who can overlook it then they are great mysteries. they don't need to be read in order but on this reread I've decided to just to see if there is any character development, or is Boney perfect first time!

I finished my classic Playing Beatie Bow by Ruth Park. I expected it to be good because I love her books and it was indeed excellent.

I'm glad we read Playing Beatie Bow at school and not The Harp In The South because I read that one last year and found it quite depressing. I did like My Sister Sif which I also read at school and I think that's the only other Ruth Park book I've read.
