Finished #2 - Male authors: The Book Thief by Markus Zusak 5★My review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
I finished my 10th for this challenge - Burial Rites. I hesitate to say I actually enjoyed it (although I told Elaine I enjoyed it before I thought about it properly), but I found it to be a moving and intriguing story and I gave it 4 stars. I did enjoy the author's detailed description of life in Iceland in the early 1800s and the growing relationships between Agnes, the main character, and Rev Toti, her spiritual advisor and between Agnes and the family she was sent to stay with.

Finished Burial Rites which I enjoyed but definitely didn't love, starting on Walking on Trampolines next.
Kerri wrote: "Finished Burial Rites which I enjoyed but definitely didn't love, starting on Walking on Trampolines next."I'll be interested to hear what you think of this one, Kerri - I'm going to a meet the author event with Frances Whiting Monday evening and I haven't read it (and won't be reading it before Mon, unfortunately).
I see from your profile you're a Brisbaneite - the meet the author event I'm going to is run by the Brisbane City Council Library and if you are interested (and aren't planning to go already!), I think there are several events, from memory - she could be coming to your local library! Here is the What's On catalogue - https://elibcat.library.brisbane.qld....
Thanks for that Kathryn, I won't be able to go though. I will let you know what I think of the book before then though, I should be able to read it before then.
Kerri wrote: "Thanks for that Kathryn, I won't be able to go though. I will let you know what I think of the book before then though, I should be able to read it before then."That's a shame, Kerri. I wanted to go see Alexander McCall Smith at the Brisbane Square library next Wed, but by the time I found out he and Frances Whiting were having Meet the Author events next week, his was booked out :-( Oh well, at least there was still room for Frances Whiting's event...

Finished Walking on Trampolines today and really enjoyed it. A quick easy read, that I had trouble putting down, just what I needed after Burial Rites

Burial Rites is quite intense! Good to hear you enjoyed Walking on Trampolines. I'd like to squeeze it in sometime soon-ish!
Finished my very first for this challenge. Liza Perrat's Wolfsangel
, which I really enjoyed and gave 4 stars to. Will write a review soon.
I've finished another challenge book:
Frontier Incursion by Leonie Rogers. Was a 5 star read. I will write a review soon.

Excellent review Elaine!
Thanks Brenda and thanks for the link. I did read your review and now it's added to my TBR. Thank you. I like Liza's writing style and I do enjoy historical fiction so will be looking out for her other books. I'm not a huge fan of short stories but the one's here sound really good so that's why I've added this one as well. And like her other books most of the reviews are positive.

I also am not a huge fan of short stories Elaine, but she does write a good story - long or short:) Enjoy!

I have finished my 12th (11th for Bronze Level)NR
The Girl in the Yellow Vest by Loretta HillI have just a male author to read to complete Bronze and am working on my list for Silver
I've lost track of how many Aussie authors I've read this year. Like Brenda it helps to be a prrety quick reader though I'm nowhere near her class.

Post #395 was where I listed them for you before Dale...you'll just have to add what you've read since then. Make that shelf we suggested too!!! ;)

I have done it. Oh I forgot all about that I had set that up, Brenda. Brain is somewhere else these days.

If you have time now, just go through your Aussie reads and add them to that shelf...it'll only take you a couple of minutes. Then all you have to do is go there when you want to know how many you've read:)

Added a few. Up to 18 now. Thanks Brenda for keeping me on track. I will try and behave in future. Grin

Just a thought...if anyone is still looking for a book to add to their 2014 Aussie Author Challenge, I can highly recommend a really good one that would also serve as a great Anzac Day Tribute:
Fromelles: The Final Chapters by Tim LycettThis is also a debut for this author.
I read this book last year as an arc and was so moved and impressed by it that I feel compelled to mention it here as 2014 Anzac Day approaches and I remember.
This is not your average war book and is a surprisingly easy read for all. It really is an amazing story and deserves a look at.
You can see my own humble review of it here:

That's a good review, Julie. Before participating in challenges here on GR, I'd not often think about reading books according to seasons or celebrations or anniversaries, but I think it is good to read something in the lead-up to ANZAC Day which can help us to reflect.
Thanks for the 'Like' Kathryn and I totally agree, not only does it help us to remember, but it causes us to reflect on those times, which in turn... and importantly...helps to keep the spirit and tradition alive...Lest We Forget. It is, after all, a defining part of our history.
