Red Pyramid ch1 I love the style of Riordan’s books, but this starts with a bang. What on earth is his father involved in?

Chapters 1-5
(view spoiler)[This book is in the classic Rick Riordan style, and I love it. So far, this seems very interesting. I don't know that much about Egyptian mythology, so I'm ready to be educated on all of that.
I really like Carter and Sadie. They're very different from each other, and I can't wait to see them bond more as siblings. Not a big fan of the grandparents though, they sorta seem like assholes.
I can't wait to find out more about what their dad was trying to do that resulted in him blowing up the British Museum. Let's hope Amos has some answers! (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 1-4 (view spoiler)[I like the style of the book. That we are the finder of their journal/radio :) also i like the small interruptions of them like "i can't say something mean about my sister because she is standing next to me" :) Also, i think their father tried to resurrect their mother. We will see :) I really like egyption mythology so this should be a great read :) Also the grandparents are a**holes. Maybe they hate the father but Carter too? I am sure that he did nothing wrong. The way it's written like an autobiography reminds my of Brandon Sandersons ALCATRAZ series, where the MC also writes his story and makes some notes here and there :)

Red Pyramid up to ch14. I know this is meant to be an audio but the interruptions of our two narrators are irritating.

Ill start off by saying that these are rereads for me. I have never listened to the audio but this one was available on KU with audio so I borrowed it. It wasn't that I didn't like the audio but it was definitely throwing me since I already had a sense of the characters from my previous read.. it just wasn't what I had imagined, so at about 45/50% the audio messed up and wouldn't play anymore so I continued on just reading it and it was better for me that way.
27% - Couple thoughts (view spoiler)[ The names of these chapters are hilarious, really. Also because of the way its written back telling the story, it has a completely different feel from the Percy Jackson series which I feel was probably pretty important to the author with the popularity there. I am also BRing that series and in all honesty I feel I like it better just because there is alot more sarcasm and humor I feel in the other series. (hide spoiler)]
48% - (view spoiler)[ Kind of spooky, being possessed and constantly having to fight to remain yourself and not be taken over. I am glad both characters seemed to come to grips with it pretty quick. (hide spoiler)]
58% (view spoiler)[ So when I was in highschool we went to the actual glass and metal pyramid in Memphis Tn on a field trip to view the Egyptian museum there, was pretty amazing. Last time I drove through though it was a Bass Pro Shop... not sure how Thoth would feel about that lol. (hide spoiler)]
64% I was highlighting stuff in this chapter and realized the name of it was "I have a Date with the God of Toilet Paper" Lol. Chapters 6-16
(view spoiler)[Okay so a lot has happened since my last update. I was hoping Amos would tell us a lot more about what was happening, but he jumped off the balcony and straight out of the story so yeah... there's that.
One thing that sorta bugs me is how we were introduced to a few side characters (Muffin/Bast, Amos, the monkey dude whose name I forget) and they all just jumped out of the story. I have a feeling Bast isn't dead though, she just has to come back. Amos could reappear too, and when he does I'm going to give him a stern lecture about just leaving your brother's kids that are being hunted by a crazy Egyptian chaos god.
Don't really know what the evil House of Life dude (whose name I also forget) is up to, but I have a feeling it's nothing good... Zia seems cool though, but I'm still not sure I trust her.
Lastly, I can't wait to see more magic happening. So far it seems pretty unique and I can't wait to get even deeper into this mythology. The Egyptian gods might actually have more complicated family relations than the Olympians, and that's saying something.... (hide spoiler)]

Chapters 17-28
(view spoiler)[This is moving all over the place because I feel like we've been to fifty different places in the last 12 chapters. Bast and Khufu have made a reappearance, and we finally know what Bast has been hiding!
The Horus and Isis "possessions" are new to this section as well, and I have to say I think it's super cool. It's very different from Percy Jackson, in that sense. I don't think anyone was ever possessed by a god there, though it has been a long time since I read the series...
There seems to be a bit of a mystery around Nephthys (really hope I spelled that right!), but I have a feeling it might turn out to be Zia. Everything seems to point in that direction, and she was in the British Museum that night. So if Set is in the evil French dude, it would make sense for her to possess Zia. I guess??
Also, I just met my favorite character, and of course it's the moody and mysterious funeral god... Anubis, I love you, you little precious god.
Sadie is getting a lot of the badassery moments right now, and that's awesome! But I hope Carter will start to pull through. I really want to see more of the Horas power (though that Leroy scene was great!!) (hide spoiler)]

So.... turns out Zia was Nepthsis (or whatever her name is) but I didn't expect her to be a shinobi (hope that is spelled right too!). It got pretty obvious as I was reading this part that Amos was controlled by Set, though I would have liked to see Evil French Dude deal with that instead. Still, I liked how this wrapped up and it definitely has great potential going into the next book. (hide spoiler)]

Finished: Yet another great reread... Though I remember bits and pieces from reading years ago Its great to get some refreshers. Another thing I love about Riordan's stories is that he is always incorporating facts and the mythological stories inside his works, which to me feels like lessons in history. They aren't just entertaining, they are also educational!

They don't sound like 12 and 14. I think 14 and 16 would've suited better. Or make them both 16. Admittedly, in the entire HOO series, everyone felt to be around the same age (Percy and Annabeth felt a bit older), but the rest of them might as well be the same age, while Nico is like, 14? Also, it's interesting that they're talking about conquering and sealing gods. This is way different compared tot he PJ series.

I like how the book doesn't really focus on a quest or prophecy, just on those two kiddos trying to save their father.

Glad to see Riordan's humour returning, and their sibling dynamic feels pretty spot on. I shouldn't be surprised by serpent leopards. Shouldn't be, but still. Creepy things. I hope the Crocodile is fine (and the monkey). I thought the cat would be like Little Bob, but nope, we have a cat goddess. Pretty cool though. (hide spoiler)]

The Egyptians have interesting gods and goddesses. We have Bast, the cat goddess, and now Serqet, the scorpion goddess. I love the sibling bickering, and Zia is quite badass (it's nice to see her being introduced by Sadie and not carter, as the romance is noticeable from the moment she is introduced) (hide spoiler)]

So Carter just got owned by a bunch of baboons, that was fun, and Elvis Presley being a Egyptian magician is interesting as well. And that reveal that Bast was Ra's hitman on all is sure a nice cliffhanger

And I'm confused, why shouldn't they trust Amos now? Maybe now he's got a god in himself now as well and that god took over the control.
And this river god's sweat is making rivers? Well guess what Carter, I'm not swimming in rivers ever again as well. Weird Egypt beliefs.

Chapter 31-33: (view spoiler)[Now Sadie met Geb. Is it me or the Egyptean gods are more weird than the Greek gods in the Percy series? Ant this book is really fast-paced, they just got together with Amos and they're already in a fight.

Chapter 34-36: (view spoiler)[So Zia is maybe a godling too and she knows Set's real name. and Iskandar was sure a smart guy. Well he lived so long so it's kinda logical.
It's weird that Isis wants Carter to be a pharaoh while Sadie has...more talents for that role. I must also say, I never heard the war cry "for Brooklyn" before.
And it was true, Set was possessing Amos. I would have been more shocked if that plot lasted for a while longer. I feel like the pace is ruining these last chapters of the book, although Amos was controlling him through the whole book it really didn't feel so as he was missing for so much.
Also, these Egypt gods were really incestous. I mean first Nephtys was Set's sister and then she was his wife.

Chapter 37-39: (view spoiler)[This battle is really everywhere. Suddenly the flashbacks appaeared and I was so horribly confused. And damn, even though some questions were answere I was left with some questions. (hide spoiler)]
Chapter 40-41: (view spoiler)[ I still can't believe Set's secret name was Evil Day. And it was a nice twist, to make Set an ally instead of an enemy. And I really didn't expect Apophis to be possessing that minor devil. He was always there and watching while everyone was busy.
So is Zia they met a fake or are the memories and events they shared connected to her real body? Also I'm not sure why they released the gods when they still had battles to fight.

Chapter 1-3: (view spoiler)[Wow this book started really fast. When I figured out what was happening it was chapter 3 already and things finally calmed down a little. Though it's obvious the trainees are in lvoe with each other and Sadie is just a third wheel. (hide spoiler)]
Chapter 4-6: (view spoiler)[ I just love how the author messed up the whole science in just one little paragraph ´Right, right. Myth and science were both true—simply different versions of the same reality, blah, blah. I’d heard that lecture a hundred times, and I didn’t want to hear it again.´
And Vlad the inhaler? Seriously? And it's quite obvious that Bast scratched his face. And damn, Sadie got kidnapped for real!
Also, from now I'll imagine Ra as an old lazy bearded guy who's even too lazy to shave his beard and he just went to Duat to take a slightly longer nap. (hide spoiler)]
Chapter 7-9: (view spoiler)[Poor grandma and grandpa got possessed. Frankly I don't mind it that much, after all I still remember the treatment they gave Carter when he came around.

You’re Bes, I guess?” I said.
“Yes,” he said.
“Your car’s a mess,” Liz muttered.

I can totally see this happening. Usually authors stretch the words so they would rhyme but this one is so natural that I can't believe it

Chapter 10-12: (view spoiler)[Can't believe how things change. In the last book they tried everything to seal Set and now they're easily releasing him. Though I must admit, he was somewhat helpful and funny.
And I always hate when they separate, but I guess the reunions are good so I'm always having mixed feelings. And I always forget that they're just 13 and 14 years old. (hide spoiler)]

I like to see the crew again, with the introduction of Walt and Jaz. Egyptian mythology will never stop to confuse me. The griffin is awesome to see, especially the twist on the creature (though I don’t remember seeing griffins in the Percy Jackson books so it might actually fit in with the actual myth???). I like the idea that there are more kids now at the Brooklyn House, it gives off the Camp Half-Blood vibes I really missed. (hide spoiler)]

Finally a proper explanation on what is going to happen. Thankfully no prophecies, once again, but deadlines. What a cliffhanger to end off Sadie’s part.
I absolutely adored the part with the other kids, like Felix and his penguin obsession. I wished that there was more for that, but now with Walt and Carter have gone to save Sadie, I fear I won’t be seeing much more of the Brooklyn House. (hide spoiler)]

It’s awesome to be introduced to some more unknown gods, like Nekhbet and Babi, and Bes. Despite that two of the three are cruel. And Sadie’s mates, Liz and Emma, were awesome. And Anubis and the kiss. Didn’t saw that one coming so soon (and it feels a little bit awkward with the age difference, but eh, can’t blame her for liking Anubis). I just really enjoyed Sadie’s part and their wild travel through London, maybe because it’s the first proper action since the begin of the book.
You can basically cut the awkwardness between Walt and Sadie with a knife, and Carter isn’t really helping either. Honestly, Carter feels a little bland right now, especially after the excitement of Sadie’s part. (hide spoiler)]

Menshikov is in the league with the snake whose name I forgot, didn’t saw that one coming (note the sarcasm). But I was surprised to see Set return so soon and see that Set is actually a pretty chill guy. Complete chaos, of course, but I really like his character.
Sadie’s narration is by far my favourite. The little insight we get about the Brooklyn House, Walt, Jaz. How Isis is a terrible goddess, like, wow, what a ***. I like Bes, he seems to genuinely care about them (and the fact that he bought had a chocolate head of Lenin, he’s just awesome). I don’t enjoy Carter’s obsession with Zia, though it seems we’re finally going to see her again! I’m more curious about what the dynamic between Walt and Sadie will be. I mean, for most of the story they kinda have been separated. I miss their banter though. They do feel way older than they actually are! They feel much more like 15/16 for me. (hide spoiler)]
