Don Quixote- Should I or shoudn't I?

Hi Everyone,

I am looking for opinions on the book Don Quixote. At the B&N buy two get one free sale, this is one of the options. I was thinking of buying it as I know it's "one of the best novels of all time" and I feel like I should read it. The premise of the book does interest me. However, I do not have a load of time to read. Is it worth it to invest my time in this very long book that will probably take me a very long time to finish? Honestly, is it really an interesting read that makes one want to keep on reading or is it very daunting? I know (and have) read reviews, but I felt like asking people whom I am more connected to on Goodreads for their opinion. Thanks for any insight.

Yes, yes, do.

I really don't understand why people are so scared of this book. It's big, but so are plenty of other books and it isn't hard going, but it is great fun. Quite Shakespearian plotting in places, bits of slapstick, epic chivalry and lots more.

I wouldn't use the word "scared" to describe what I am feeling about the book. It's just that I have very little reading time and it's a large book. It sounds harsh, but I guess I'm wondering if I would be wasting my reading time with a book that's so big when I could probably read three books in the time it will take me. The last time I read a book so large was when I read Anna Karenina (maybe not even as big) and that was way before I had a child at the center of my life!

Nope, no sale on classics at my local store. I think the sale is on Picador books and the Grossman edition of Don Quixote is a Picador.

I wasn't directing the word "scared" at you, Jaime, but I get the impression that many people are scared or daunted at the prospect of reading it partly because of its size but also because they've heard it is hard work.
