Doug Joseph (douggjoseph) | 18 comments Need some Librarian help working on this edition, since this is a little unusual:

Not just a new edition; a new series!

New Immortal

I am the author. A new publisher is republishing this title under a new ISBN (new, revised paperback edition), with a new series name and a revised cover. Please note that the new series is no longer a trilogy! It is an open-ended series. The remaining two books in the trilogy are to be republished in the same manner, and then more volumes in the NEW series are to be added.

Issues needing attention as of the time of this note:

The above (new) edition's ISBN was listed here on Goodreads but with the wrong (OLD) series name, and no cover image. I edited the listing, deleting the old series name from the title areas and adding the new, and I uploaded the cover. However, I could not add the new series down lower on the edit page (where it is really needed) as I don't yet have librarian status. So, in searches it still shows up under the old series name.

Also, regarding the Kindle edition: The new publisher has proper authority to revise the Kindle files, and has revised the existing Kindle edition to match new ISBN, new series name, new cover, all while still using same ASIN (B0030BF1PA). The Kindle listing (link below) needs attention.

New Immortal

For sake of clarity, below is info on the old series (concluded trilogy) and the new series (open ended):

OLD PUBLISHER: CreateSpace
Original ISBN: 1449948472
Original Series: Millennial Teleport Trilogy, #1
Original ASIN: B0030BF1PA
Paperback (retired): https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1...
Paperback (retired): https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1... (just a new edition of above, with new cover)
Kindle Link: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1...

NEW PUBLISHER: WhiteStone Publishing
New ISBN: 1628830034 (this ISBN is listed on Goodreads but with the wrong series name)
New series name: Skyport Chronicles, #1
Unchanged ASIN: B0030BF1PA
New paperback (active): https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1...

Again, the Kindle edition has been changed on the Amazon site to match a newly published ISBN with a new series name, and has a new cover. Here is the link to it: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1...

My heartfelt gratitude will go out to all those who can help! :-)

Doug Joseph (douggjoseph) | 18 comments When I go to edit a book's details, I'm shown a note saying I've been granted "a special 'librarian' or author status." I am guessing that status is author instead of librarian, because when I try to edit a book a add a series name, I am shown a big red error message that reads, "Only Goodreads librarians can do this. Find out about the Goodreads librarian program »"

I have applied for Librarian status but I don't think I have it yet. Any help would be appreciated!

Plethora (bookworm_r) | 359 comments Authors are only granted limited librarian rights to edit their own books.

Doug Joseph (douggjoseph) | 18 comments Thanks, that confirms what I had realized when I edited my above comment.

message 5: by Gerd (new)

Gerd | 1050 comments I created a second series and added the first book.
It's not possible to link a series to a specific edition of a book so I added the new publisher name to the series description and a link to the original trilogy listing.

Doug Joseph (douggjoseph) | 18 comments Dear Gerd:

Thank you! Headed over now to check out the result. I realize it may be too soon for the result to show, but if that is the case I will just be patient! Thanks again!

Doug Joseph (douggjoseph) | 18 comments I edited and set the new edition as the default edition for the title.

Is there a way to set the new series as the default series as well?

I tried to "move up" the new series name to be the first in the list (is that the same as setting it as default?). Nothing happens when I do that. I guess only a librarian can?

message 8: by Gerd (new)

Gerd | 1050 comments Not sure, I tried that, too, so that the current series shows up first but "move-up" doesn't work for me either.

The system also ignores that "Skyport" is actually added to the title of the new edition.

message 9: by Monique (new)

Monique (kadiya) | 1097 comments The "move up" feature is broken. To change the order of the series, you should delete the first series and then re-add it.

Doug Joseph (douggjoseph) | 18 comments Thanks for trying!! Hopefully a way will be found.

Doug Joseph (douggjoseph) | 18 comments Dear Monique:

Thank you! Are you a Librarian who would do that for me? I am not able to because I have author status instead of librarian status.

Done.

(FYI, leaving a librarian comment on a book's edit page is only useful in rare cases. It won't get anyone to look at that page if they are not already doing so.)

Doug Joseph (douggjoseph) | 18 comments Dear Rivka:

Thank you! I will delete the librarian comment on a book's edit page. I did that before I thought of posting here. Oh, wait. I see you already did!

Thank you again!

Doug Joseph (douggjoseph) | 18 comments One more question:

Is it allowable to have the revised cover that is currently selling with the Kindle edition, to show there?

message 15: by rivka, Former Moderator (new)

rivka | 45177 comments Mod
Sorry, show where?

message 16: by Doug (new) - rated it 5 stars

Doug Joseph (douggjoseph) | 18 comments Sorry, I was meaning that the Kindle listing here on Goodreads shows an old cover that does not match the Kindle edition's cover on Amazon. Is it allowable to upload the revised cover here?

message 17: by Doug (last edited Dec 11, 2013 10:01PM) (new) - rated it 5 stars

Doug Joseph (douggjoseph) | 18 comments I have tried to read what rules I could find about covers, but the question seems a little murky regarding a Kindle edition with an updated cover. Is is allowable for the Goodreads listing of a Kindle edition to have the updated cover uploaded to it? If so, how would I go about that? When I try to touch the cover, the system tells me only a librarian can do that.

Doug Joseph (douggjoseph) | 18 comments Many thanks and much appreciation to all of you for helping. You have been tremendous. So much kindness. Thank you!

message 19: by Plethora (new)

Plethora (bookworm_r) | 359 comments A new cover requires an alternate cover edition to be created. It can then be combined with the existing and you as author can set new as default.

The librarian manual linked on the home page of this group gives an example for alternate cover editions. I am on mobile device right now, making linking a pain.

message 20: by Doug (new) - rated it 5 stars

Doug Joseph (douggjoseph) | 18 comments OK, thank you!

Doug Joseph (douggjoseph) | 18 comments Dear Bookworm R:

Thank you again!!

message 24: by Doug (new) - rated it 5 stars

Doug Joseph (douggjoseph) | 18 comments I have added the alternate cover edition for the later revision. I then "combined" it with the existing series. Thank you again! I am overwhelmed with appreciation for you taking time to help me!
