Petra X (petra-x) I combined two books with different titles that are the same book, but couldn't find a place to add a note to that effect.Kavita Daswani
I added a note on the profile page, but it really belongs on the combine-books page. Help, please.

Laura | 101 comments I have a similar question: I just found out that 2 books from Rosemary Hawley Jarman have 2 different titles: Crown of Glory and The King's Grey Mare. At WorldCat, they say: Originally published as "The King's Grey Mare." May I combine both boooks? Thanks for your help.

Eva-Marie Nevarez (evamarie3578) | 753 comments I forget how to add the note Petra but someone will let us know.
Laura, you can combine books with different titles as long as they're the same book.

Laura | 101 comments thanks Eva. They are absolutely the same book, I checked with different sources of information.

Cait (tigercait) | 4988 comments To add a note for a book that'll show up on the combine page, use the "add a librarian note" link at the top of the edit book page. To add a note for all books of an author that'll show up on the combine page, there's another "add a librarian note" link at the top of the edit author page. Generally, if your note is just for one book, it'll be more visible attached to the book and not the author.

M— | 60 comments I have another similar question: What's the best way to note the separation of different books, both with the same title and both by the same author?

Pamela F. Service authored Tomorrow's Magic. This book was later published as an omnibus with its prequel, and this omnibus was also titled Tomorrow's Magic.

I'd like to add a librarian note reading something to the effect of:

"Omnibus edition containing both Winter of Magic's Return and Tomorrow's Magic."

--but I'm not sure if it's necessary that I add the note to every edition of that omnibus? (It seems messy to me to have that information repeating in the combined page.) Is placing the note in just one edition and making sure that all relating editions are combined appropriately enough?

Thanks much for the help!

The problem is that if you only tag one edition, the following scenario will (inevitably, eventually) happen:

Well-meaning librarian A (let's call her Rivka) mistakenly combines the omnibus TMs with the non-omnibus TMs. A couple days later, librarian B comes along and sees the combined work, notices your note, and separates out the one edition with that note. However, B has no way of knowing that there are other editions of the omnibus, and leaves them in with the non-omnibus TMs.

Of course, if Publisher Z would have just titled the omnibus something more distinct to begin with, we wouldn't have a problem! ;P

M— | 60 comments Pfft. If Publisher Z had been sensible this would all have been far too easy.

Thanks!

*narrowed eyes*

You work for a publisher in real life, huh?
