Felina Ha! Chris, I appreciated that.

message 354: by HomeInMyShoes (new)

HomeInMyShoes Haha. So how do I link the library loan to the app? There's no options at all. Don't tell me I'd have to do this on a computer and then strip and side load because that's more painful than going to the library to carry back paper books. :)

Totally stuck and the page turning in overdrive blows chunks.

Do library books load into OPDS? Not sure what it is but it links to Marvin: http://marvinapp.com/

I also read that Blue Fire and the Kindle App read library books - but I'm not sure how. I have a library about 1 mile from my house now so I only borrow DTBs.

Did you try the Method 2 as shown on that link? It implies that you might be able to add your library name (for "Title") and your library's URL in the "Add catalog" option. I'm sorry but I don't have an Android phone right now so I can't experiment with this.

message 360: by Lee (new)

Lee | 939 comments My library uses a reader app called Blio. When I linked my accounts together, it was through the library's system. I borrow the books on the library site, and then they show up on the app.

I'm not sure how others do it, but I would guess they're all similar. Look at an option to link accounts on the site where you're borrowing.

It took me a few days to get it. I couldn't read my first library eBook because I had no idea where it went... I downloaded it on my nook, but my nook couldn't read it.

message 361: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (thenightowl) Nienna, I had a similar issue with Overdrive. I borrowed the book using my laptop and then downloaded the Overdrive app, but the book never came over. I ended up having to borrow the book again from the app. Luckily, the book was showing under my account so it was simple to download it again.

message 362: by HomeInMyShoes (new)

HomeInMyShoes In Canada Kindle will not read library books that I can see. I've got Kindle, Kobo, Moon and Overdrive. I also nabbed Freading since that is supposed to work with my library, but I can't find where to connect it properly or how to borrow a book into it. It seems to be linked into my ADE account as clicking on the account option just asks if I want to disconnect it now. I think I have to do as Jackie is suggesting that the app needs to borrow the book and that will solve it, but I can't even find where to connect the library to it which is the frustrating part. I might need to *gasp* go ask a librarian at the library. I never do that because I know what I'm looking for and where to find it.

The lesson here is: STUPID CANADA AND OVERDRIVE FOR NO LIBRARY SUPPORT IN CANADA WITH KINDLE. For such a great country we are the absolute laughing stock when it comes to technology, price of Internet and Internet speed.

HomeInMyShoes PEBKAC. Apparently you just tap with no swiping motion of any sort. And somewhere I read that you can change the gesture to an upswipe which is why I was thinking it was a swipe before.

Stupid Internet. Why is everything I read on it not the truth? :)

HomeInMyShoes Jackie wrote: "Does that mean every thing is now good in the land of Canada? ;)"

No, Canada still sucks for that as I'd love to read borrowed books on my K3 easily and the Internet is way slow and overpriced.

On the good news side, Overdrive isn't pissing me off as much. Woohoo!

Ha! I love this one. In my dept we usually use one of the following:

"The problem was a PICNIC"- Person In Chair Not In Computer

"EEUC problem"= Equipment Exceeds User Capability

"I-D-ten-T issue"= ID10T or IDIOT

:)

That's weird... I had a coworker comment to me just this morning that she only heard this phrase today for the first time.

Synchronicity...

HomeInMyShoes It seemed appropriate. *smacks head*

At least I know now that I only need the Kindle reader and Overdrive. I'm not going to borrow too many e-books from the library at this point. It's just nice to have the option in a pinch.

And I can uninstall a bunch of readers that I don't really need. I hate clutter.

colleen the convivial curmudgeon (blackrose13) | 2976 comments Watching horror films burns nearly 200 calories a time

"Viewers who put themselves through 90 minutes of adrenaline-pumping terror can use up as much as 113 calories, close to the amount burned during a half-hour walk and the equivalent to a chocolate bar."

(I'm not quite sure in what world 113 is "nearly 200", but, aside from that... scare away, kids.) ;)

ally ¯\(ツ)/¯ (allykennedy) | 168 comments How many calories would I burn if I watched a horror movie with my ears plugged, eyes closed and humming loudly?

I can read the most mind bending, graphic material and not be affected... But one scary movie and I'm afraid of the dark, afraid of the shadows. I'm not made for 'em.

Unless you're still all tensed up in anticipation of being scared. Then that might count. ;)
