I only read two that fall into this category in 2013 -- Twelve Years a Slave and The Street: A Novel

I am going to try for 6 this year.

Changed the date requirements to reflect the effects of colonization on the African continent and in the diaspora with respect to black writers.

After discussing it with kisha, we decided to adopt a 30 year 'aging' for classics.

So now books written in 1984 or before will count for this challenge.

Any case anyone is struggling in the classic book area, here are some great examples:

Roots by Alex Haley
The Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman by Ernest J Gaines
