I only read two that fall into this category in 2013 -- Twelve Years a Slave and The Street: A NovelI am going to try for 6 this year.
Changed the date requirements to reflect the effects of colonization on the African continent and in the diaspora with respect to black writers. Thanks for the suggestion Beverly!
Since I have read a good number of the classics and my 2014 reading focus is not geared to classics I will do - 3

After discussing it with kisha, we decided to adopt a 30 year 'aging' for classics. So now books written in 1984 or before will count for this challenge.
Signed up for them all. Joining in on this challenge too...going for the Classical Studies Doctorate! I'm challenging myself to reading 9+ classical fiction novels.
Tonya, Things Fall Apart is a good one. Hope you liked it. Just wanted to tell everyone that read or re-read Kindred, it can be used for this challenge TOO since it was written in 1979. :D
