I thinbk it was alluded to last book - but knowing a dragon's name is a big deal
Now that the girl knew her true name, Sintara could only hope that she had no idea of how to use it. No dragon could lie to someone who demanded the truth with her true name or used it properly when asking a question. Refuse to answer, of course, but not lie. Nor could a dragon break an agreement if she entered into it under her true name.
Ch1
Alise and Leftren have put their feelings on the table. It seems Leftren does not want tarnish Alise's name in any way
Sedric has been into the dragon blood - he's not taking to it too well. I wonder if it's because the dragon he took it from is sick? Maybe drinking a dragon's blood sets up some kind of link?
Rasp snakes sound pretty gross
Greft and Jerd have been breaking the taboo about the deformed mating. I wonder if Jerd ends up pregnant?
prologue - I love the parts when we're in dragon thoughts. They feel so utterly superior, it's humbling to be a human when you read all that.
The vibrations directed to sedric, described as something old and powerful, judging because it knew what Sedric had done. - Tarman perhaps?

ch1 - Wow, it's a good thing I hadn't eaten anything before this parasite chapter started. ugh. disgusting.
Seems like we have even more opportunists on board than i thought so far. This'll be fun!
Re: Sedric - I could be because he's ill, i had taken it that he perhaps just drank too much. that normally you take just a little, but he drank so much he's completely drugged.

ch2 - the copper's concern for Sedric was so sad to read. poor dragon. no-one wanter her so far, no care taker (i loved Sintara here: she's copper, not brown!) and then she has some kind of Stockholm syndrome and the only bond she forms is with her attacker.
the blood definitely made a link. Sedric has been unable to understand any dragon and just hears a 'rumble', so for him to get her thoughts so clearly the blood did something he didn't take into account.
but also - she's talking! that must mean she's actually doing better
i was also intrigued by sedric getting an itch. it reminded me of all the itching before malta and her husband-whose-name-i-cannot-remember-right-now got their scales.
can you imagine our dandy with scales along his back? weehee, that'll be fun!

Yeas - and when they are taking the rasp snakes off her belly Sedric is doubling over in pain
And Jess is the Chalcedean's man. He's very keen to be getting hold of some dragon parts. And he's trying to corrupt the keepers. Imagine King Greft!
Now Leftrin's planning to kill him. He doesn't want Alise thinking he's a bad man.

It's also interesting that the Elderlings were humans that the dragons modified
And it certainly had not been her decision to accelerate the changes that Thymara was undergoing. She had no desire to create an Elderling, let alone devote the thought and time that molding one required.
So Thymarra may be on her way to being an Elderling? And what about Sedric?
ch3 - Yes that bit was interesting, but also that there were humans working in that city, not all elderlings. So closeness to dragons in itself has no link to becoming an Elderling.
But so many keepers, we might start a new race just yet, and i think it'll include Thymarra and Sedric

ch4-5: oh boy, there the river goes and it doesn't look pretty. i wonder how many we'll lose :((
Silver lining: it looks like Sintara finally got off her high horse, helping her keeper AND realizing that she needed the human help to stay afloat, and therefore alive.

I don't like Jess. I hope he meets with a bad end.
I'm going Sedric's bond to the copper will change him for the better.
I totally missed the Tarman having feet. I may have to go back and reread. That's a big detail to miss.

Paddling with all his might, Tarman was coming for him. The barge’s thick sturdy legs and webbed feet would propel him against the current. Swarge would man the tiller and the crew would break out the sweeps, but Tarman would not wait for that pantomime of help. The liveship was coming for his captain.
And is this the first time Tarman has been called a liveship?

I had missed it too at this point, so you're not alone!

Ah - good pick up.

Not offhand. But it's been over a year now for me.

I think they used the names of Liveships the same way that Leftrin uses Tarman's name - the owners did at least.

My impression (again, long time ago) is that they did both: that the ship, as a thing that moved things around, was the Paragon or the Ophelia, but when people who knew them were talking about them as people, they were just Paragon and Ophelia. Pretty sure at some point they talked about someone booking passage on either the Vivacia or the Ophelia, rather than (as elsewhere) WITH Vivacia or Ophelia.
As always - whoever gets to chapter 6 first, feel free to make the next thread.
