Delaney Harmony wrote: "I loved June and Day, and they deserved so much more, in my opinion. When I finished it, I literally kicked stuff for five minutes and then lay down on the floor to cry. Maybe that's just because I..."

Well in a way it was a happy ending. There is not anything that says they did not get their happy ending. They meet again and that is pretty much it. The rest is up to the reader to decide.

Jaye H Ya I agree. Like I remember In the earlier books they talked about if they met on the street on a normal day with normal lives. This is their happy ending and I think it’s a perfect fit for the book

Delaney Yes! Exactly! They felt so guilty for each other that each of them wanted to meet under different circumstances to begin with. Of course, Day may retrieve all his memories, but I think that is still okay, it's a fresh start for the 2 of them.

Shaylene I had mixed feelings about the ending, I liked it because it was bitter-sweet but I don't like it when my ship has to start over again. I especially don't like how she left it so open ended whereas in other books authors leave it open ended but you know how the characters' romance is going to continue. Here, it is quite undetermined. Then again, I liked how they have a clean slate since June did cause Day a lot of pain by being involved in his family's murder. So...I liked it and didn't like it

message 105: by Alyson (new) - rated it 5 stars

Alyson The ending reminded me a little too much of Mockingjay (Hunger Games #3). It was a little cliché, but I am glad the series ended well.

message 106: by Alliyah (new)

Alliyah Degnan I loved the ending! They should have ended up together! I cant believe you would say that...I could cry.

laycie_christine This book made me laugh and cry. i was sooo sad they didnt end up together but was still so happy that they both got what they wanted. Then the eventally come back to each other.

message 108: by Fidha (new)

Fidha I totally agree with everything you’ve said. For me,it was a more perfect ending than an ending where Day dies.

And to those who argued that June should have stayed at the hospital and narrated their whole love story so that Day might remember their time spent together,i don’t think that would’ve helped him.

Keep in mind that Day had retrogade amnesia.Which means that he wouldn’t simply get back his memories by just being told about his personal expriences. They do come back due to spontaneous recovery,of course.Which may have been possible if June had stayed by his side and did everything to bring his lost memories back again. And even if Day did recover his memories in that way, their relationship would have never worked out due to the fact that whenever Day would look at June,he would be reminded of the death of his loved ones and this would, again, deepen the chasm between them.

Also,i liked the ending because now they’d get to know each other better and know where both of them are coming from. There were a lot of things missing in their relashionship in the beginning as mentioned above.

And in the long run,in the rebuilding of his relationship with June making new memories,Day might even completely recover all his lost memories, like the doctor in the book said.

At the time of memory loss,Day was 17.His mom and brother just died. The scars were fresh. Now he’s 27.He’s matured even more. The scars, though slowly,
start to heal, and the recovered memories will probably will not be a weight on their relationship any more as he’ll understand everything even better. He’ll no longer have those violent flashbacks whenever he’ll look at June
as that was way in the past. They’ll have the relationship that they hoped for without the chasm between them and that’s what makes it a beautiful end for me.

message 109: by Jaye (new) - rated it 5 stars

Jaye H I totally agree will you! It was the perfect ending. There was definitely foreshadowing for this ending too. Like when they would say “What if we just met each other on the street” . I feel like that’s what made it the perfect ending. The fact that they got a clean slate and the possibility of a new and improved relationship.

message 110: by ishav1123 (new) - added it

ishav1123 I honestly think this kind of had to happen in a sense. With everything that happened there would always be hurdles and without that, they can start a clean slate. They can have the relationship they would have had, one that flourishes instead of their relationship that was nearing complete ruin. They each loved the other so much but there was so much in the way of that and their happiness.

I couldn't agree more!!!
I also thought that 10 years was a really exaggerating time length. I too really hoped that Eden would be like "hay this is the girl I told you about " or that Day would say something like "I heard a bit about you but I'd like to get to know you on my own..." or SOMETHING that proves that June and Day both live in the SAME PLANET, ugh. All in all great trilogy, wait, scratch that, BREATHTAKING trilogy!!! And I gotta admit, Marie Lu did do a really great job wrapping up the trilogy, but I kind of felt disconnected from Day which really upset me. And he felt like a whole new character for me .😢😢😢

message 112: by lightlessbodies (new)

lightlessbodies I honestly think that Legend should have stood by itself. I read it, and it warmed my heart till it melted. Then I read Prodigy... and I cried. Then I read Champion... and my heart got torn into a thousand little pieces then dried up on the sidewalk. So yeah... I wouldn’t be suffering from Story-Syndrome right now if there was just one book!
*But I loved the trilogy. Especially Day. Go Dune! :)

The Bibliophile Oh my gosh. The ending was crazy, but amazing. When Day woke up from his coma and didn’t remember June I literally stood up from my chair and paced around the room. And she didn’t even tell him who she was! I liked in the end that they met exactly how Day said would be cool. (On the street and then introduce themselves) But I was so giddy when he said he thought he found something he lost! I’m sad that Day doesn’t remember anything from the previous books but hopefully he’ll regain his memory! I love Day!

message 114: by lightlessbodies (new)

lightlessbodies When I read the book I really wanted to jump into the book, grab Day by the shoulders, shake him, and yell, “That’s your girlfriend, remember her! Don’t you remember Eden, and John, and your Mom, and everything that happened to you for the past year? Come on!” One thing that I’m more happy about is that Marie Lu didn’t follow in Veronica Roth’s footsteps. (I cried for ages when I read Allegiant)

message 115: by Evie (new) - rated it 5 stars

Evie I love this book sooo much but I am someone who cant stand unhappy endings. I mean the ending is good. Like really, really good, but I really wish the Marie Lu didn't have to leave such a cliffhanger. Don't get me wrong, I love cliffhangers, but I REALLY need to know if Day will finally remember June and if they'll be back together. But this series will always be one of my most favorite. It's soooooo good!!!

Shaylene Evie wrote: "I love this book sooo much but I am someone who cant stand unhappy endings. I mean the ending is good. Like really, really good, but I really wish the Marie Lu didn't have to leave such a cliffhang..."

if you follow Marie Lu's twitter and haven't heard the news, apparently she is writing another legend book that takes place right after the epilogue of champion.

Ashley I’m excited for the new book too be released

message 118: by Jaye (new) - rated it 5 stars

Jaye H OMG where was I when she announced that’s she was writing a legend 4!?

message 119: by Nicole (new)

Nicole Brant The ending leaves so much potential for the way things could have went. A part of me wishes that there was a more solid conclusion to what happens between them but at the same time it leaves the idea that maybe they dont get back together completely. Day lost his memories of June and if along the way he finds out the loss of his family being in some way contributed by June, he could end up feeling completely different about it than before. Memories can come back but theres no guarantee that he will still love her the same, or even have forgiveness, Day has a new mindset now he may never be able to forgive June for his family even if he loved her before.

kaylajoy Ha, it is so like Marie Lu to leave us heartbroken and hopeful at the same time.

I usually want to throw her books across the room first after finishing them, but then later reflect that I am grateful that an author has given us a series without a perfectly happy ending, all in all I would say that I did like the ending.

message 121: by Jess (new) - rated it 5 stars

Jess Morgan The ending was not my favourite! this series so far lives to be the best I've read, however the last page just annoyed me. I see where she was going and I get it, but I wish there was some actual acknowledgement that they would get together again. it sort of leaves you hanging thinking there will be a next book. Day should have handed her the paper clip ring and said 'I believe this belongs to you' or something

message 122: by Ava (new) - rated it 5 stars

Ava I thought the ending was bittersweet and it ended as though Day and June would have a restart on there odd relationship.

message 123: by Alison (new) - rated it 5 stars

Alison It's actually pretty good. It's a smart ending, but I'm really glad there's another book so we can see what happens.

message 124: by Claire (last edited Apr 13, 2020 03:52PM) (new)

Claire I have so many feelings about the ending. It did Day and June dirty. I loved them together, I love how their relationship grew during the book. I am a very romantic person when reading books, so when the relationship fits, I ship. The whole book I was saying, ‘If Day dies I will throw the book across the room.’ Okay, so what if he didn’t die! He literally forgot EVERYTHING about June (which was just as bad as him dying) and how much they loved each other. It annoys me sooo much. June, you stupid girl, you should have told him something! That ending was supposed to say they were going to try another relationship, right? That wouldn’t be the same! June is still going to miss the old Day, and Day will never understand why! JUNE, YOU’RE SO STUPID! YOU SHOULD’VE TOLD HIM SOMETHING!! She didn’t want to tell him, because she was afraid of hurting him. June, honey, Day freaking loved you so much, even though you had all ready hurt him!

I also hate how no one told Day about June! Come on Tess and Eden! You selfish turds! You should have told Day about his relationship with June!

I HATE (WITH A BURNING PASSION (this is the last one, I swear)) the fact that June got together with Anden. No, no, no, no, no. No, honey. No, June. She was clearly trying to let go, but couldn’t.

In conclusion, the end was dumb because Day will never remember why he loved June, but June will, and their whole relationship dynamic will change completely.

message 125: by Claire (new)

Claire Amethyst wrote: "Honestly their are many possibilities on what could happen well i did choose one specifically. So they go to dinner in Tess's house. Day and June are their and so are the rest who are invited. Then..."

OMG! Thank you for this. I freaking love it. I freaking needed it.

Putri Aulia Salsabila Actually, I think this book has the best happy ending for a couple who said to be really in love. They made decision not only for themselves, but also for the others. But, honestly, I do also disappointed that they didn't directly together happily ever after. But, just like I said, from the very first start their love is that 'hard', so I didn't also expect the ending of their story would be that 'simple'.

Anyway, we could see another June and Day in Rebel. Even though, I expected it should be Day and June's stories again, but unfortunately not. It is Eden's, but anyway, so far it is good.

Have any of you read the newest book in the legend series?

message 128: by Savannah (new) - added it

Savannah I absolutely loved the ending! It was so fitting for the end of Champion. A great lead-in for Rebel too! While it did make me cry when I first read it, it was so well thought out and perfect. Marie Lu is such a cinematic storyteller and I read all of her books. Love you, Marie Lu!

message 129: by Swasti (new) - rated it 4 stars

Swasti I think the ending was sort of bittersweet. I hoped they would be together at the end of the series. It was bitter as Day forgot his greatest love June and sweet because he didn't die at the end. I have also read Rebel after that and believe me it is an epic conclusion to the Legend series.

message 130: by Tanya (new) - added it

Tanya I think it was epic. I loved the way champion ended not because of how he forgot her but because it made me cry.Its the kind of ending no one expects to happen and when the moment comes it just hits you and you just have to put the book down and take a moment to breath. I love when endings give me that feeling. I also read Rebel too. I mean the whole series was good!

message 131: by Iye (new) - rated it 5 stars

Iye Ogunkeye I have mixed feelings about the end because I understand why June left especially since her actions had a direct affect to what happened to Day's family but at the same time Day already forgave her so I feel like she shouldn't have acted like she didn't know him. It was selfless yet I feel like it was unnecessary. I'm happy that they met 10 years later again and Day got to kind of remember her but I feel like it was too rushed. Like he only kind of remembered her for a day and they were already going on dates. He barely remembered what they did together before they were going on dates and whatever. I'm happy they got back together but it felt like the 10 years after was kind of rushed and crammed in to the story.

message 132: by Eve (new) - rated it 5 stars

Eve I cried... alot.

I was crying for a good 20 minutes - from the point where June was on the roof with commander Jameson and saw day on the floor to what i thought was the end but then i saw the add on part which made me feel sad but happy? I mean they ended up together and neither of them died (which i was convinced one of them would based on how my friends described it) but they didn't end up together....?

But I'm too scared to read Rebel as i have such high expectations for June and Day but ill read it eventually.

message 133: by Nick (new) - rated it 5 stars

Nick I just finished champion and the ending upset me so much. I’ve been lying in bed not being able to sleep for hours. The fact that June goes on not saying anything to day and also goes back to anden to start a relationship with him made me wish day would’ve just died. He was stronger with her around and now he’s going to be an empty shell of what he was.

message 134: by Leah (new) - rated it 5 stars

Leah Crider Dude I was OPPRESSED over this ending. This was a moment where June and Day really confessed their love and June had to really cherish that moment before Day lost his memory.

JuneBug If you look at the cover of Champion, there are two people outlined in white who appear to be kissing. One appears to have a ponytail, and the other appears to have their hair 'twisted up into a knot's. Did anyone notice this or just me 😂 😭 😲

JuneBug Well I LOVE the ending but Rebel opened up all these spots that made no sense. I mean Day says he's heard rumors June was dating Anden, but he didn't recognize anything? He told her that the day they met again. A lot of things just don't totally add up. I can't rember what else, but I'll add it when I think of it lol

JuneBug Today's the day. July Eleventh. That means today is June's (and Marie lu's) birthday and that means ITS THE DAY DANIEL AND JUNE REUNITEDDDDDDDD 😭😭😭😭

message 138: by rae (new) - rated it 3 stars

rae So disappointing! Marie Lu makes up for it times ten in Rebel though.
