Ending... good or bad??

Colton It was the most original ending to a dystopian series I have read thus far. (I have read quite a few, or I'd like to think so.)

Colton Emily wrote: "Cassidy wrote: "Zeeba wrote: "Cassidy wrote: "I think i've come to the conclusion that i like Day wayyy more than i like June. "

Yes i liked Day way more. I enjoyed reading from his PoV more than ..."

I agree with your view on the ending, however, I personally enjoyed having June's PoV end the story. I don't think that Day's PoV would have added much depth, as it pretty much tells you that, other than his receiving treatment and his brother's education, not a lot happens.

Temple Rose I really liked the ending I was about to give the book up when they parted ways but Im glad they both go there in the end.

Yani I think the ending was good, because in the whole series Day always repeat that it would be different if the had met in different situation, the relationship between them would be easier and now the situation is just what Day was talking about.

Colton If I could change a single sentence in the series, it would be the very last one. When June is about to tell Daniel her name, that he interrupts her and says "June" himself. But all things considered, great ending.

Rob I liked the ending. I've read the hunger games trilogy, the divergent trilogy, legend trilogy, and the maze runner trilogy+the prequel to it, and I personally liked the Legend trilogy the best. Just started the testing by Joelle charbonneau.

Paige Yin I love the ending, it is left open ended, but I think there's no doubt Day will fall for June all over again.

and this is my favorite ending in comparing The Hunger Game, Divergent, Uglies... this is the best ending.

I believe the correct words to use for the ending of this book would have to be, bittersweet.

Amethyst Silverstem Guys i want t tell you all that i come to a conclusion after i read the trilogy and that is, all the authors have their own happy ending that they have in mind which they choose not to share to us because they believes that it is better left unsaid. I believe that this is what Marie Lu did. If we truly understand her then we would know what kind of ending she had in mind. But we don't have to think so hard about how to understand her because the key to understanding her lies within you. What is the ending you want? Tell yourself the ending you truly want and I'm sure that is the ending she wants too. You may ask why or how i think that. It's because we're HUMAN, we all are! We all have the same desires, all of us do. We all desire a happy ending and i believe Marie Lu desires a happy ending as much as we do because she is human after all and not only that, she is the writer! She spent so much time on it and i know she already made her own happy ending. Tell yourself what ending you'd do if you were the author of this series. Spill it, everything. Then ask yourself, "if this is what I'd want if i was the author of this series then shouldn't it be the same ending that Marry Lu had in mind?" we all may have different ways of ending the story but what i'm sure of is that Marry Lu wanted us to make a happy ending that will make us happy. She wants us to make an ending , didn't she leave the rest of the page blank? this might sound like the stupidest thing you've ever read in your life but i don't mind. I just wanted to share this to you because this has saved me from feeling down. And in fact it inspired me that she probably risked fans who ended up hating the ending just so we can make the ending we truly want. the ending we all truly want!

Amethyst Silverstem Honestly their are many possibilities on what could happen well i did choose one specifically. So they go to dinner in Tess's house. Day and June are their and so are the rest who are invited. Then after a while, June can't take it anymore, seeing Day so distant, far away so she decides to go to the backyard or somewhere she could be alone so no one would see her as tears fall down her cheeks. Day approaches her, not knowing what to do though. but June avoids any further conversation with day and leaves Tess's house early. Then Day goes back to the rest, still confused about June. It bothers him a lot but he doesn't know why. He recalls June crying a few minutes ago, then all of a sudden all of his memories of June comes back to him.

June arrives home but as she opens the main door of her house, she is caught off guard by arms that wraps around her, she remains surprised because she didn't notice anyone following her while she walks to her house. "I'm sorry," Day says in a voice filled with happiness but pain at the same time, pain for making June wait for a really long time "Forgive me June, forgive me I kept you waiting." June bursts into tears, tears filled with happiness. She turns around and their gaze meets. The moment she saw the eyes of the man infront of her, she knew her Day was back. She hugs him tight and finally tells him she loves him, that she always wanted to say this to him in the hospital, 10 years ago.

Aliya I really didn't like the ending of the book but the epilogue made up for it.

Hayley Oh my gosh! The ending! it made me sad and angry and happy. I still want to cry every time I think of it. The last like 20 pages or so, I was just bawling my eyes out. I felt for June, I felt her pain… Ten years, ten long years, when I turned the page and it said TEN YEARS LATER, I lost it for a solid five minutes. Just thinking about the pain and loss June felt. How she tried to move on and love Anden the way she knew he deserved but Day was the one that would forever hold her heart. I respected her choices even if I did not always like them. And the ending, I still don't know if I was crying tears of sadness, frustration, happiness...

I hated and loved the ending at the same time. Overall, the ending was perfect that should not have been any different. Theres nothing I hate more than a series ending with the characters all living happily ever after, everything works out in the end, everyone is peachy. NO. I hate that. This ending was a perfect way to end this book even if people did not really like it or agree with it. I just wish we got into Day's head one last time to find out what he was thinking.

The one thing That I did not like was when Day was lying on the ground dying, he was looking over June's shoulder at the stereotypical "orb of light" thing. Ugh. seriously I feel my gag reflex coming on. DAY, DON'T GO INTO THE LIGHT. Then he has a "chat" with his mother who is dead just COME ON don't ruin a perfectly good book PLEASE. Anyway, I choose to over look that because I was too unset about Day dying.

MajorBookFan The ending of this book was horrible! I was completely torn! I can't believe June didn't tell Day that she knew him!

Audrie Encarnacion Lu had done an excellent work! Don't you agree? I mean, c'mon. Day forget June but not entirely for 10 years. And the ending, WOW! *feels* It's soo sweet. And I feel June is the Champion than Day to me.

Abbie Did anyone notice that Mary Lu tell us the ending of Champion in Prodigy??? Yes! Just remember when Day say to June this:

"You know, sometimes I wonder what things would be like if I just...met you one day. Like normal people do. If I jus walked by you on some street one sunny morning and thourght you were cute, stopped, shook your hand, and said, "Hi, I'm Daniel"

THIS BREAK MY HEART!

Annaw I really liked the ending i thought it was sweet. I liked how she didnt tell him about her because she didnt want to hurt him exactly like darkest minds hmmm but it gave the reader a chance to make their own ending how they wanted it.

Puspita Deasy I had just finished Champion and the ending is just so great.
I thought when Day already lost half of his memories, the story will be end, but man, i loved it when i read "Hi I'm Day, Hi I'm June" part. It's like there's a new hope:D

Cosmostar Wu I thought that ending was beautiful because in my mind this is what happened after Day left for Antarctica:

The 10 year span isn't a random number, it serves as a catalyst to allow new events.

His memories come back during this time (as the doctors said it would) but he doesn't let anyone tell June this.
Several reasons for this:
- Day questioning himself about why June didn't confront him in the hospital after his awakening; if they knew eachother as well as described in the book then Day would understand that June realized she brings painful memories (flinching at her touch) to him so he needs time to heal and truly forgive her.
-This time span allows June to 'repent' for her guilt thus when Day does show up she will no longer have to run.
-To give June a chance to be with Anden or some high class guy as he has always felt unworthy of her. (It does irritate me that she gets with Anden, it feels like her 'pureness' is tainted when with anyone but Day...)
-Most importantly he is waiting for a chance as 'normal people' would meet and in the end that is what Marie Lu presented to us, a normal boy and girl.

Some may argue that his memory did NOT come back and I respect that but think about it. Day is smart enough to act as if he hasn't remembered but he was never good at lying, especially in front of June. June says she saw pieces of them in his eyes, a hint that he has possibly remembered everything.

This is just my version which I came up with after marathonning all three books and I post it to give closure to those that need an answered ending but, for those who have their own endings in mind feel free to ignore mine. I believe this was meant to, like all books, allow us to think of a perfect ending and story to fill the blanks which the author does not.

Z I'm actually surprised so many people liked it, I thought it was a complete cop out.

message 71: by Mitchell (new)

Mitchell Mariacher Think about it this way, they eventually met back up in the epilogue and i'm assuming since she actually introduced herself to Day that she wanted to have some connection with him and her desires for him and her to have a relationship and extremely strong as we have seen throughout the book so eventually she and him will get together and obviously someone Eden or Aden or maybe even June herself are going to explain to him what happened between Him and June. I always like to think logically about the end of book like, use the information about that characters to see what would happen in the future. So ya that what I think WOULD happen if the story continued. Just my thoughts.

Priyanka ChampionMarie Lu
Hi, I have just finished reading Champion. My thoughts on the series was honestly so enjoyable. I loved the action, the romance and the drama. I love Day's and June's relationship with each other. The ending of this book, left me feeling so depressed. I agree with a lot of comments on here about why didn't any of the friends tell Day about June. But ultimately, the decision rested with June whether or not she wanted to tell him. I wanted her to tell him. I feel now that their relationship will never be the same again(I do know this is a fiction book not real life)and that what makes me feel sad. Does anyone feel like me about this?? Praise to Marie Lu on writing a fantastic series that makes you(me) feel a hell of a lot of emotions.

message 73: by Will (new) - added it

Will Well, finished Champion. R.I.P my happiness, life, emotions, (my poor tear glands). Oh mam, even though I am sooooo depressed, a good ending, left me crying for weeks (Again, sorry tear glands), and I simply need more. Epilogue in form of book please, that would be nice. Also, I will never look at any endings the same way. (Stopped reading for a month, so R.I.P brain cells). Wow, so depressing, left so unclosed (aka open), and it looks like a setup for another book (6 part series? *wink, nudge?*). Love it, 10/10, best book of all time. (Seriously, Epilogue book please.)

Kelin Jones I was so mad when June walk away so i stopped reading it but after 45 minutes or so i picked it up again and was a lot happier :)

Kamil I love how the story ends. It's like the author is telling us that no matter how they met (either one as a criminal and the other as an officer or as two people happened to walk in the same street, caught each other's eyes and greeted each other) they will always end up being together. But yes, part of me wonder if time (10 yrs) has done its part on healing the wounds of the past in Day's case if in the first place he remembered nothing specific about June at all.

Yes, exactly! You wrote the very words in my mind.

message 78: by Ryan (last edited Feb 05, 2017 10:51AM) (new)

Ryan I loved the trilogy! My only question is how June is not in Day's long-term memory I mean he was in love with her. And how did seeing her in the hospital not cause recall if it did 10 years later? Also June said Day was gone and Daniel was there instead. That's like killing off one of the main characters! Why!!! Day was the best character! Also 10 years was just ecessive. Another thing is why didn't Tess drag June to Antarctica to see Day. Also currently either Tess, Eden, or someone else would screw up, mention June, and cause a recall, wouldn't they?! It makes no sense! And couldn't there have been a couple od pages just to tie up all of the losse ends?

Ariane Tucker I thought the ending felt alright. June and Day had a fresh start, but won't he find out about all the things they went through together. And if June does not tell Day about their past, her guilt will eat her alive.

LegendKIng I feel like she is going to set up of another book with older Day and June which would be amazing!

message 87: by Jaye (new) - rated it 5 stars

Jaye H But have you read the other 2

Wise Cat I loved the ending! It left things open ended enough for your imagination to take over. I know this is trite, but I liked that Day and June's love was strong enough that he DID remember something about her, about them, etc.

I didn't like June with Anden, so I'm glad she didn't stay with him.

I was surprised it ended that way, as I was sure Day wouldn't survive. But he did, and he's even better 10 years older.

Someone mentions movies; I didn't know movies were in the making! I think casting would be hard, as you can't please everyone! Personally, I am not familiar enough with today's young actors to cast June, Day, Tess, etc.

Then there's the evil Commander Jameson. What a *****.

Hmmmm......

Mya Rodriquez I absolutely adored the whole series!!!!

Jaye H me too!

Chloe I definitely think the ending was justified. Marie Lu did mention previously in the book in the sewers that Day wanted to meet June a different way or even start over. She foreshadowed it so we can't be mad at it. Also people say that June should've been updated on Day but why would you do that? She's trying to get past the fact that he can't remember her so she moves on. Its like telling your bff that their ex is doing this or that. You just don't mention it so that its easier to move on.

Giulia I personally thought the ending was clever, fitting and especially hopeful and hope is what I would expect to feel at the end of an YA novel, despite all the pain the main characters have to go through. I also loved it by the way. I think if you have read the whole trilogy you realised that this was the only way that June and Day would have a chance of being together without Day feeling in pain about what June did to cause the death of his family.
I am looking forward to reading the further epilogue that Marie Lu is giving with preorder of her new book at the end of the year as it will apparently be the last chapter of Champion from Day's perspective.
I am convinced that sooner or later Day will have most of his memories about June coming back to him.
And in any case in my opinion this was an happy ending for them and I think they will be ok. I will miss them but they will be together and after all it is all about what we imagine to happen for them and as I said the ending leaves you with hope.

message 94: by Jaye (new) - rated it 5 stars

Jaye H I completely agree. Like in all of the second book dy was like: "what if we just bumbed into each other on the street one day".

message 95: by Jaye (new) - rated it 5 stars

Jaye H It was foreshadowing for sure. :}

Giulia Yes, Marie Lu had decided from the beginning that this would have been the ending and I think it was a good one. There is no doubt that they will be together, it was " something meant to be".

Giulia Cosmostar wrote: "I thought that ending was beautiful because in my mind this is what happened after Day left for Antarctica:

Totally agree with your comment, I feel exactly the same.

message 98: by Jaye (new) - rated it 5 stars

Jaye H i agree :}

Delaney I really liked the ending! It really allows the 2 to meet on better conditions and for the two to start anew instead of fostering this love built out of guilt. I thought it was an awesome ending and I don't think it should have ended any differently.

message 100: by Basil (new) - rated it 5 stars

Basil I loved June and Day, and they deserved so much more, in my opinion. When I finished it, I literally kicked stuff for five minutes and then lay down on the floor to cry. Maybe that's just because I thought it was going to be a happy ending. Anyway, I have never lent them to anyone in fear of being sued for emotional distress.
