2014 Resolutions
It was part of our syllabus in my gifted class (Philosophy) in high school. I don't remember a thing about it. I have no desire to try reading it again.

Afterwards I plan to do a class for Don Quixote. Not in any rush for that.

I was working on reading it untranslated. I should get back to that. It's one of my favourite things so it's a little embarrassing that I've only ever read it in English, considering my ancestry.

I'll let you know when I start...
I used to be a theater major when I attended Indiana State University, so this year I want to make a resolution to read more plays. Unfortunately I've fallen short in that aspect ever since I switched my major.

One of my favorites was some crazy murder mystery and I can't remember the name to save my life. :(
The only plays I've read are Shakespeare and I enjoyed them. Its just not something I think of reading. I also love seeing plays. And some of my favorite movies are based on plays. I should look into reading a few.
I'm going to make a resolution to read more short stories this year. I have so many waiting to be read maybe this will encourage me to finally get to them. Classic and contemporary. Fantasy, Sci-fi, and Horror. The goal is one a day - but I might lower it to 5 a week instead.
I want to keep my reading simple in 2014. I'm lowering my GR goal to 75 instead of my normal 100. I want to focus more on quality. Of course, that doesn't mean I won't read a frivilous book here and there, but I really want to concentrate on reading chunky books and stuff with more substance. I'm also refraining from doing any challenges for a month or so other than the GR one and my personal TBR challenge. For my TBR challenge my goal is to read 1 book I own a month.
Oh and I signed up for some buddy reads in 2014, so I'm sure those will keep me occupied. I hope to tackle the Dark Tower and Narnia series with some help from GR peeps. :)
I really feel that I need to focus on finishing series and reading from my TBR pile. Anything else would be gravy!

Personally, I would feel too pressured to meet my goal. And I'm keeping to only the challenges that fit into my reading.

I like the badge and the look of all the covers in one place.
I no longer feel much pressure in hitting 100 since I've proven that I can do it 3 years in a row, but I don't want to spend my time feeling like I have to read because I need to break the previous year's record. That's silly. Plus, I feel like my bookish pursuits are taking over and I would like to cut back to concentrate on other stuff.
I never make my yearly book challenge (only because I refuse to include rereads). Resolution is to finally meet my yearly goal of 60 newly read books in the year.
Benjamin wrote: "I never make my yearly book challenge (only because I refuse to include rereads). Resolution is to finally meet my yearly goal of 60 newly read books in the year."Completely agree, rereads don't count for me towards my reading goal, which I missed by one book in 2013!) This year I'm also going for reading 60 new books.
My other goal is to finish some of the series that I have on the go. Particularly Wheel of Time which will definitely require a full series reread (hence why I haven't got to it before).
I'd also like to read some more short fiction as I think it can be a really great way to find new authors.
Paul, Chris set up a Series challenge. You should check it out. :) https://www.goodreads.com/topic/group...
Becky wrote: "Paul, Chris set up a Series challenge. You should check it out. :) https://www.goodreads.com/topic/group..."Thanks Becky, I'll check it out.

Nyssa and Becky, stay away from the madness while there's still time, you don't have to end up like the rest of us :)
Chris wrote: "She's been meaning to get to it since Eye of the World was a stand-alone."Haha... Not quite that long. I would have been 8.
Paul wrote: "I'm thinking of rereading one of the WoT books per month (I know this means I still won't have finished the series by the end of the year but at least I'll be well on the way to being done in 2015!"This was my goal last year... I didn't make it. This year I'm determined to make it.

LOL!

LOL!"
I just got The Eye of the World off the shelf and put it on my desk in a very deliberate way....and so it begins...(at some point in January at least!)
Nyssa wrote: "I wish you the very best of luck on your journey! :)"And a long journey it's going to be ;)
Ha ha! I take books off my shelf in a deliberate way all the time. It never means anything when I do it. O_o
I can't get past 25 a year when I don't have anything going on let alone everything on your plate. :) Good luck!
Nicole wrote: "I decided to set a goal of 100 for this year knowing full well I probably won't meet it as I am planning a wedding, building an apartment, working, and serving on some crazy long jury duty. However..."Wow! You've got quite a lot going on! Good Luck with everything!
I only made it to 36 last year, which was my worst year since I started keep track in 2011. While my 2010 shelf does say only 16, those were the books I had actually remembered to add to Goodreads. I'm not sure what my final count was that year.
Paul be prepared to be disappointed with the final book in the WOT series. Definitely not a good finish. Seemed like a total cop out to me, cant believe Jordan's wife approved of that book.
Ah okies Nicole. I just couldn't figure out how one would build an apartment lol. Know the feeling about student loan debt, my brother is buried under around 80k in student loans. Idiot couldn't figure out what he wanted to be so first he became a teacher, then a lawyer. Now me and my father are stuck paying it off for him since he wont even get a high paying job as a lawyer and instead chooses to be a prosecutor.
And I'd chime in that I thought all of the Sanderson books were an awesome finish to the WoT series. So you realty can't trust popular opinion :)
Benjamin, I've been prepared to be disappointed with the end of WoT since Robert Jordan was writing them. I think it's very difficult for long series like that to actually deliver on their build-up (I have the same worry about Ice and Fire if I'm honest). If it turns out to be a good ending then that's just a bonus :)Nicole, I'll also add my good luck wishes for the apartment. I'm planning to buy a house this year if I can find somewhere (although I'm hoping to get something that doesn't need too much work. Think I would find it far too intimidating to take on a project like yours).
Also still paying back student loans (which pretty much feel like they are never going to end!).
I don't think I have *ever* finished a series and not been disappointed in some way. The only one that comes to mind is Sanderson's Mistborn...
Nicole wrote: "Thanks Paul! Its not too bad! I have found that I really enjoy spackling drywall. Its a fun new learning experience. I also learned that I hate stripping and refinishing furniture! Haha. Good luck ..."Thanks! Glad you are enjoying the renovating (some parts of it at least).
Student loans are the worst. I pay $350 month in student loans but mine are paid off in 2017. Hurry up 2017!Since I suck at finishing series I can't really say about series ends. I did read the Sabriel series which I think was only a trilogy and that ended good. I think all the ones that I finish are just to get it over with.

I've read bits and pieces of all three but never more than enough to pass whatever test I was studying for, lol.
But now that I have the time to do as I will (and it's a free audio download that I can use whenever instead of on a schedule!) I think (I hope) I'll get to it.
