Casey this book is amazing! It is one of my all time favorites. I gave it to my dad to my dad to read and it is one of his favorites of the year!

That's nice. I'm glad you and your dad liked it. I'd probably have liked it more if it had been more realistic.

How could it have been more realistic?

Well, the other kids could have been a bit meaner...

Rosella Brooke, I suppose in some schools no child would have been brave enough to befriend Auggie and, realistically, I don't know if defending Auggie from other schools would have caused a permanent change in the bullies' feelings for Auggie. However, I felt that aspect was as realistic as the book could be without turning into a depressing piece about how tragic it is to be different.

Rosella I've been thinking about my post and I came to the conclusion that in a real life he wouldn't have had quite so many friends as he did at the end. It's nice to believe that everybody would love him for who he is at the end of the year, but in reality he's the kind of guy who probably would have gone through school with a couple of close friends, a couple of enemies and quite a few classmates who got over the idea of having him in their class but still felt awkward socializing with him.

..what do you mean more realistic ? ..

Tessa Sells Auggie is kinda cute if you think about it

Natalie I LOVED this book! And, I could see something like this happening in real life. Yes, I can see other children being mean, but I can also see the development of Auggie's character and self worth. I think any person that has a strong sense of self worth has a fair to good chance at surviving a not-so-accepting environment, because that person wouldn't focus so much on what others say as much as they would on what they know of themselves.

I think every person in education should read this.
