"YOU THINK SO? THEN TAKE THE UNIVERSE AND GRIND IT DOWN TO THE FINEST POWDER AND SIEVE IT THROUGH THE FINEST SIEVE AND THEN SHOW ME ONE ATOM OF JUSTICE, ONE MOLECULE OF MERCY. AND YET — AND YET YOU ACT AS IF THERE IS SOME IDEAL ORDER IN THE WORLD, AS IF THERE IS SOME... SOME RIGHTNESS IN THE UNIVERSE BY WHICH IT MAY BE JUDGED."
"Yes, but people have got to believe that, or what's the point — "
"MY POINT EXACTLY.”

I understand.
I was just introducing my co-worker's kindergarten age son to Sir Terry this week.

What is up with that?! Don't they realize we have reading to do??

Homeinmyshoes: I consider that part and parcel of the limited wishes. Next iteration they'll have to cough up the dough to re-summon me from the bottle.

Oh. Wow. That sounds like...a little bit of hell on earth. O_o

O_O

GMail has an enterprise-level product a lot of companies seem to like. Email storage is one of the big selling points, but the emphasis is a bit less on scheduling, calendars, and resource control.

He doesn't want internet based email. >:|
FML.

The problem is that Outlook (the software) only allows for a specific amount of space. My co-worker has over 28K emails in Outlook. A lot of them have attached huge data-hogging files.
I've had to have the computer repaired 3 times now due to corruption via Outlook. The last repair person said that "it isn't 'If' it's 'when'" the computer crashes again. Outlook wasn't meant to hold that much data.

Yeah. At least, I hope.

Ooooooooooh! I'm on it! Thank you!
My co-worker is refusing to relinquish Outlook as is and I'm refusing to spend all my budget on fixing this 4+ year old computer. Again.

We use this at work. It is works really seamless when our servers are running properly. ;-)
Mrs J- I don't know what industry you work in, but have you looked into a paperless documenting system? We're required to keep emails and documents for 7 years per state law and we've transferred to paperless. We're required to tag all our emails in, which saves space on Outlook and the added bonus is that if you're out people know what you worked on, so they can pick up the trail if needed.

If this stuff were easy I wouldn't get paid well. :)
I'm trying to think of why someone wouldn't want Internet email. I've had it since 1999 and would never go back.

We have this as well. We use Lotus Notes but have some email archiving and tagging system. I'm not techy, so all I know is that I have to tag emails as WIP (work in progress) and they can stick around a little longer, or company record which makes them last forever. Everything else gets auto-deleted after some set time period. The WIP and CR stuff gets archived into another server or something.

We're much too small for most of this tech. :(
We're not paperless but we do have specific things that we have to keep for an extended amount of time. I'm not sure but I *think* it's 10 years. But don't quote me on that.

I'm *guessing* it's the change to the workflow? My co-worker said it was the interface(s).

^ This.

Haha. I've always subscribed to the "adapt or die" mantra. Although I am getting older so I might be a little crotchety while doing so.

When I went to the UPS site to track my package it kept redirecting me to "register."
Did UPS change its policies to require registration to track packages WITH a tracking number recently? I have no interest in registering and logging into any site just to track a package when I supply the tracking number. *annoyed*

Not that I can tell. I just tried to track a package being sent by UPS and had no issue.

You are amazing! Thank you!

When students finish their labs/work in science, I let them play board games/chess (rather than going on their iPads). I have a learning chess set where each piece has info on how many spaces it can move and in what directions. The kids love it! (A few teachers have tried to "borrow" it).
A few days ago, a student asked me to sit down and showed me how to play. I've always wanted to learn. I was immediately hooked! So, I bought a book to read on chess basics, but I've been told there are apps and/or websites where I might play others? Any wisdom for me?

That's pretty cool!

It's a good thing I've started studying, I was asked to settle a chess "dispute" between two of my students today ;)
I better work hard over spring break - they already expect me to be an expert!
