Becky (beckyofthe19and9) Regarding your curtains - you should get the ones you want after kitty is trained not to use them as playthings.

^ This. All of this.

message 2753: by Dawn, Dawnerys, Mother of Modding (new)

Dawn (breakofdawn) | 860 comments Becky / MrsJ - Believe me, I feel the same way. I have another cat and have had it since it was a kitten and she still has her claws. I have always been anti-declawing.

If it was just stuff I'd deal, but she is violent with them. J and I want to have kids, and right now it's a very real concern that she would hurt them. She plays by scratching and digging in with her front claws. She wake us up by clamping the claws onto our feet. I'm all cut up but even that I could take, at least right now while she is little... But if I had a baby that would be a big issue.

I had already decided back in November not to declaw her despite the destructive behavior. Now I'd had to re-evaluate, as it's gotten worse and not better, and have decided it needs to be done in her case. It's either this or give her up, and considering the number of people actually looking for a cat to adopt, especially an insane one, I'd rather do this now while she's young and give her a good home. And let's face it, even if I did give her up and she found a good home, they'd likely declaw her too. It's bad.. Really bad.

The other day she climbed the wall paper in the basement, crawled into the drop ceiling, and wandered around. We didn't know she was in there until she fell through a panel into the bathroom down there.

So yeah. Judge me if you'd like, but this isn't a knee jerk materialistic decision. I've debated and researched all of the alternatives for months now and have had a hard time coming to this decision. My vet has worked with me the whole time and agrees with me about it in Quinn's case. I feel horrible, but it needs to be done.

message 2754: by Dawn, Dawnerys, Mother of Modding (new)

Dawn (breakofdawn) | 860 comments Also, I trim her nails every week. It just hurts less when she lashes out. And when I say she is violent, I don't mean in a mean way. Despite all efforts, she just plays very rough and crazy. I swear to God, the way she files through the house running sideways across the back of the couch as she goes, it's like we have a rabid squirrel running loose.

message 2755: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) Sorry Dawn. I'm not judging you... I can understand your decision better, given the baby issue, especially.

I just have a knee-jerk reaction to declawing. However, I can acknowledge it may be better in the long run than where she might end up otherwise.

MrsJoseph *grouchy* (mrsjoseph) | 5312 comments I'm not judging either way - I just wish there were other options. In case something happens and you can't keep her.

Dawn (breakofdawn) | 860 comments So bottom line, it's not crazy to buy new curtains. I'm calling this a consensus. Now I can use this thread to get the cost approved by J :D

message 2763: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) Right. Get the ones you want... you're the one who will have to live with them! :)

message 2764: by Dawn, Dawnerys, Mother of Modding (new)

Dawn (breakofdawn) | 860 comments I just want new ones of the ones we already have. I like them. They are cheap, simple, and plenty good enough. Just a little deconstructed right now.

message 2765: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) Well then you must call them REPLACEMENTS... They aren't new curtains, they're replacements for your destroyed curtains! ;)

^what she said.

I want lined dupioni silk in a beautiful shade of purple. Long enough for an elegant puddle.

Hubby says No. Hell no. Especially not purple.

I'm thinking maybe I need to find a seamstress?

I kind of want wallpaper.

I blame British TV.

colleen the convivial curmudgeon (blackrose13) | 2976 comments If I were to wallpaper I would get someone to do it that wasn't us. :D

And just one wall per room. Like an accent wall...

That's not *that* horrific, right?

I need to get my bookcases bolted to the wall. The last time I got that quoted the person wanted waaay too much money.

So i'll let the weight of the books hold them for now.

We can be wallpaper buddies! :D

And painting is evil. Hate the painting. I'll try to get someone to do that next time it needs doing, too. (I, apparently, have endless amounts of money in my various "things to do to the house" fantasies...)

OK Fine. THOMAS bolted ours to the wall, and it cost me patience points to put up with him while he did it.

Agreed.

And this is why we (HIM) haven't done it. He'd start moaning about the quantity of books. Not understand why they have to be in specific order.

Sometimes he things I should get rid of books. That's usually when my attention gets taken by something else...

I'm pretty confident White Wolf coats the pages of their books in super dense gloss, or they've perfected a method of making iron look and function like paper while retaining its relative mass.

message 2784: by Chris , cookie guilt (new)

Chris Haught (haughtc) | 2450 comments So lately I've been seriously into Breaking Benjamin. So much that I set up a Pandora station for listening to this band.

And so now I've heard more Chevelle, Red, Linkin Park, and Evanescence than I ever thought I'd need.

It would be nice to occasionally hear some Breaking Benjamin, but hey.

Oh, and 30 Seconds to Mars sucks. It's official.

message 2785: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) Their new stuff is weird, yeah. I love their two older albums though.

And that's one of the reasons I really get annoyed with Pandora. I can only use it when I'm in the mood for a style of music, not for anything in particular.

message 2786: by Chris , cookie guilt (new)

Chris Haught (haughtc) | 2450 comments Yeah, as annoying as Jared Leto is as an actor, he should stick to it. Hehe. That's actually how I feel about Shinedown - good early on, but not so much lately.

At least I think I've blocked Foo Fighters from this station, by hitting the down thumb every time they come up.

Oh, I did think of a movie I liked Jared Leto in. Fight Club. Perfect role for him.

message 2789: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) He was good in Requiem For A Dream... But I don't think I've seen much with him in it, honestly. I don't even remember him being in Fight Club... but I've only seen that once or twice, and *shrug*. Not really a fan.

message 2793: by Chris , cookie guilt (new)

message 2796: by Jeremy (new)

Jeremy (darkk) | 52 comments It seems like Batman is the only DC character for which a passable movie can occasionally be made - the rest of the characters labor under some kind of ancient and powerful curse that turns any movie based on them into pure drivel. Television shows, cartoons, and shorts seem to be mostly exempt from the curse's eldritch power but any attempt at a movie brings its full wrath to bear.
