My daughter discovered that. Just out of high school and while going to college she worked at libraries. She said it would have been fine except for the people.
I enjoy talking books with people. I kinda miss working on the floor now cause of my back, so now I'm in the back office.
Nyssa wrote: "So.. I have a nitpicky question:When do you count Paranormal Romance as "Romance" vs "Fantasy with a romantic theme"? "
For me it's a matter of plot dominance - i.e. if the romance is the main point or a sub-plot.
Like the Immortal Empires books has romance, but it's about much more than that, so it's UF.
The Karen Chance books, on the other hand, seemed to have a plot whose purpose was to get the sexy times going, so it's PNR. (And why I stopped reading that series.)
A lot of books I really don't care for and think of as PNR aren't what others consider said genre. I've tried both series by Ilona Andrews for instance and they drive me up the wall. I often like the plot or idea but the story drives me away. Swooning and arguing...sexual tension...getting a "sniff" of your love and losing it. I can't take it.Others of course look for it.
So much like what Colleen said it seems to me to be a matter of the love story overwhelming the plot.
There should be a sub genre to fit between urban fantasy and paranormal romance. A series I never know where to fit are the Sookie Stackhouse books. They *feel* romance to me but by my own guidelines they're urban fantasy.

I've created two shelves: One is "Genre:Romance" which is as it sounds, and the other is "Theme:Romance" where romance is more of a secondary sub genre.
Ok, I need assistance, please.I want to add two shelves, using as few words as possible, to convey two different meanings.
One shelf will be for series that have been completely written (like Little House on the Prarie). There are no new books to come in that series
The second shelf would be for completed series that I have finished reading, in full (like Harry Potter). I've read all 7 books.
I currently have a shelf called "series-completed" (which I'm using for series that have been completely written) but it doesn't seem to fit. I would rather use it for series I've completed, meaning I need a name for the other one.

Hmm maybe: "series-completed" and "series finished reading" or "series-read" or "series completely read"
Oh! "series completely written" and "series completely read"!

Nope. Just a random pic I found on FB that I thought was funny. ;)
I'm so tempted to lower my 2013 goal on the goodreads challenge so that I can keep the pretty blue badge. I really like the color.
Ha! I always adjust my reading goal so I can 'complete' it. I try to stick with it until November and then it gets adjusted down.
I went ahead and lowered it (and will add a "confession" in the comments.I also "Fixed" the one for 2011 which I actually did earn, but then lost (by 2) due to rereads; which I think was completely unfair! People are still asking for them to rectify that by making rereads count for multiple challenges without having to add editions you didn't really read. I was too far off of my goal in 2012 to justify changing that one, though.

Yeah, I had a lot of clean up due to multiple editions when I started using book collector.
You know, the more I think about this whole GoodRead Challenge / Reread thing, the more irritated I get, So I've decided that I am going to set all of my GR widget goals to 12 (Indicating one book a month) and then state my real Challenge Goal in the comment section.
I just don't do challenges. I end up feeling too pressured about books to read anyway by lack of self control when I send for library books. I've set almost all the library reads aside at least for a while and am reading (and listening to) some of my own books I've been wanting to get to. I don't want to start worrying about numbers.

I don't really worry about the numbers anymore, but if I set them then I want the reporting to be correct.
It's 2014 here in the UK, so a very happy New Year to you all. :)
So what is everybody up to this evening? Any big weekend plans?I'm watching the final episodes of Breaking Bad (love this show) and unintentionally starting internet fights.
Tomorrow night the Boy is coming over to watch a movie and I'm making dinner. I'm not a great cook so I'm kinda nervous. Any recipes for a good pasta dish?
This is good. I usually use turkey bacon so it works either way.http://www.finecooking.com/recipes/ca...
Oh, I also went to pepper rings to replace the peperoncini. I thought it dominated the dish too much, the pepper rings were milder, but it depends on the person I guess.(and I use regular parmesan)
Oooo that does look good. I love turkey bacon but the Boy doesn't so I'd have to stick with regular but that is a definite maybe.
Nicole wrote: "That looks yumm-o! Same problem with me except I don't eat pork and bob is almost passionate about bacon, but he won't eat turkey bacon. Star-crossed lovers..."My boyfriend is vegetarian. All types of bacon are off-limits unless it's just for me. And since it's almost impossible for me to use an entire package of bacon by myself... *sigh* I just go without most of the time.
I might start Breaking Bad this weekend. I have all of them now. Right now trying to muddle through bad grammar and shit spelling.
In one of our BotMs.

You and me both.
Nicole wrote: "That looks yumm-o! Same problem with me except I don't eat pork and bob is almost passionate about bacon, but he won't eat turkey bacon. Star-crossed lovers..."Exactly! I was raised in a religion that doesn't eat pork. While I don't particularly care anymore I have found that, having not eaten it for a good 25 years of my life, that damn pig wrecks havoc on my GI system. But Gary loves it. *sigh* And turkey bacon isn't the same I guess. It's a good thing he's cute.

Do it! The show is amazing.
I was in a church that didn't eat pork for a while to Felina. Becky, MorningStar Farms makes a pretty good veg. bacon.
Laurel wrote: "Space is doing another Orphan Black marathon - bliss!"Love that show, I can't wait for the second season!
Also just started Breaking Bad (on season 2 at the moment). Really enjoying it so far.
I only have two more episodes to go. I decided to get some decent sleep last night and tackle those this morning. I'm guessing the final episode entitled 'Felina' will be to my liking. *wink*You guys are definitely in for a treat.
Hubby loved Breaking Bad.Re: Pasta
Here's one that I like. Ive made it and I used a really spicy sausage and it was almost too spicy.

I love it! But you don't make a whole lot of money, so there is a downside.
