Becky (beckyofthe19and9) Woooooo! :D

That's awesome.

colleen the convivial curmudgeon (blackrose13) | 2976 comments Yeah. Gotta say, 'Good Omens' isn't my favorite, but I am excited by this prospect.

message 2103: by HomeInMyShoes (new)

HomeInMyShoes Ooooh, that sounds good. I will have to find a source when it comes out.

colleen the convivial curmudgeon (blackrose13) | 2976 comments So, this happened:

Malice, btw, is a YA horror book... so why that's generated rec's for romance (erotica?), I have no idea... ô_o

Lol. I was going to comment on how if I read a book from a given country (in English) it probably doesn't mean I need recommendations of books in Arabic, or Czech, or Russian that aren't translated. The faith in my language abilities is way too high.

Considering I have no other languages besides English in books I've read it makes no sense.

hahahahaha

GR's recommendation engine sucks.

Yes!

I just got it about 30 mins ago! So excited!

It's...not quite what I expected (it's shorter but just as wide as my old Kobo) and now I wish I'd gotten the Aura H2O. Nate got one and it looks sweet (but it's like $40 more).

Ah, yes. I've had those, too, but not that often.

MrsJ - as much as I hated the homepage rec feature when it first came out, I've actually found a lot of books through it.

But it's obviously faaaaaarrrr from perfect. LOL

message 2111: by HomeInMyShoes (last edited Sep 08, 2014 07:09PM) (new)

HomeInMyShoes Oh I've found some decent ideas through the recommendations, but a language option might be useful. My geography challenge is really skewing the recommendations.

Oh oh MrsJ. Buyers' remorse sucks, but it usually passes.

MrsJoseph *grouchy* (mrsjoseph) | 5312 comments So far, it's a nice little ereader!

I'm not a huge fan of the OS but I've never been a huge fan of Kobo's OS(s). The light is nice and it's adjustable. What I don't like is that there's a ghost line at the top and bottom from the lighting strips.

I kinda wish I'd gotten the H2O but HiMS is right. ;)

Absolutely not. Knowing you, you'll catch pneumonia. ;-)

message 2114: by Dawn, Dawnerys, Mother of Modding (new)

Dawn (breakofdawn) | 860 comments Nicki - I could probably look this up, but what's the difference between Paperwhite and Paperwhite 2? I love my Paperwhite, I could use it forever. But if there is a second edition out that's even Better... Upgrade time? LOL.

message 2115: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) I recently bought the Paperwhite 2... After years of being anti-kindle... I'm slowly being converted. *shakes fist at Amazon* >_>

Dawn, here's a comparison that I found online: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UFoUP...

I actually really love it... the light is SUPER even and bright, especially compared to my Nook with glowlight (1st gen).

message 2116: by HomeInMyShoes (new)

HomeInMyShoes I'm still using my K3. I'm so retro.

message 2117: by Dawn, Dawnerys, Mother of Modding (new)

Dawn (breakofdawn) | 860 comments Eh, doesn't look like it's something I need. It's brighter (I already read at half brightness so not a big plus for me), slightly lighter (I don't find mine to be heavy at all), and 25% faster. The only thing I'd like is the faster part, but I can live without it. I get frustrated with mine every once in a while when I am trying to browse through my books and it lags, but not frustrated enough to need a new one.

message 2118: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) Yeah, I don't think there's anything that would really warrant an upgrade if you have a PW1 that you like... the flickering less would be nice, but it's not worth $119+, in my opinion, if you're happy with what you have.

message 2119: by Dawn, Dawnerys, Mother of Modding (new)

Dawn (breakofdawn) | 860 comments Flickering? I don't have any flickering issues.

message 2122: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) Dawn wrote: "Flickering? I don't have any flickering issues."

LOL I just mean the page refresh. Apparently the PW1 does every 6 pages, and the PW2 does it every chapter or so. I haven't used the PW1 so I dunno about that.

message 2123: by Dawn, Dawnerys, Mother of Modding (new)

Dawn (breakofdawn) | 860 comments Huh, I still don't know what you mean. So it must not bother me! :)

MrsJoseph *grouchy* (mrsjoseph) | 5312 comments Colleen. I think I just found one on your TBR to avoid.

message 2125: by colleen the convivial curmudgeon, Not a book hipster! (new)

colleen the convivial curmudgeon (blackrose13) | 2976 comments Thanks for the heads up. I'm a bit iffy on this book anyway 'cause I haven't really liked anything of Black's since Tithe.

message 2126: by MrsJoseph *grouchy*, Bad Girls Deadlift (new)

MrsJoseph *grouchy* (mrsjoseph) | 5312 comments I *think* the flickering/ghosting is sometimes called refresh? My first Kobo had to refresh every so often or the ghosting started.

message 2127: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) Yeah... I watched a video about the new Nook Glowlight and they changed how the refresh works on that one, and now it refreshes a lot less frequently (I think it was every chapter?), which means that the hazy ghosting can get pretty bad. That would annoy the hell out of me. So glad I didn't try that one out.

Not even recent reviews, are they?
Sometimes you gotta wonder why we put it out there.

One time I posted my disagreement on a review. I feel really guilty, but I could not help myself.

It was for The RiddleMaster of Hed, and I just couldn't take that they didn't get it.

I wasn't mean or anything, but....sigh.....
