message 1901: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (thenightowl) We had our employee outing today. At the end they do a raffle, so this year they did different gift cards and 3 Toshiba tablets. As people got their gift card the announcer would say where the gc was too. Every time people would clap and would say "Oh! That's a good one!" So one lady got one for B&N...

Crowd: Ugh....
Fred: *yells* They sell coffee there too, ya know!
Me: (-_-)

I won a two sizes too small t-shirt at the conference I went to last week. I would have been ecstatic to win a University bookstore gift card.

message 1906: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) LOL That's always how it goes, Leslie. Win, and then your prize is something that you can't use or don't want.

"Oh, great. I'll just rock this shirt right after I drop 1/3 of my bodyweight. Awesome."

Mike (the Paladin) (thepaladin) | 1381 comments My daughter got a couple of those. T shirts in what I guess are "misses" sizes? Anyway she gave them to her little sister (big brothers big sisters program).

message 1911: by Dawn, Dawnerys, Mother of Modding (new)

Dawn (breakofdawn) | 860 comments Free tee-shirts must just be fated to never be the right size. The ones I get are always too big. Sorry mam, all we have are XXXXXXXXXXL. Is that alright?

I take them anyway and use them to cover my car when I leave it in the sun.

I don't really do that. That would be weird.

message 1912: by Elise (new)

If you enjoy it, you should! I do it because I stopped reviewing on GR. I wanted to keep reviewing AND I decided that - even if the other book site(s) I use were to do something as stupid as GR I would maintain all copyright without question. So now, no matter where I dump a review I always post it to my blog FIRST and then post to whatever booksite (currently Leafmarks).

You never know. I felt the same way about people following my blog _ i figured it would be just a few friends to be nice.

And 100 ppl isn't a huge number, lol. And its no indication that they are reading it. So I only blog about stuff I want to blog about. Books, wine, funky news stories, pulling ass muscles (ouch)...

message 1941: by Chris , cookie guilt (new)

Chris Haught (haughtc) | 2450 comments I have a blog that I use for reviews. They're all posted on GR as well, so I don't think anyone ever visits it. Still, it's a place I can keep my reviews as a backup in case GR ever gets as worthless as Amazon for reviews.

I actually revived my mostly inactive blog when I joined NetGalley.

I only recently resurrected it, after moving domain name to something a bit more book-related, but I feel better about being in control of my content rather than having it all on Goodreads. I just copy-paste to Goodreads (and Librarything) now.

Of course, having moved domain to something book-related, I'm now thinking of writing some non-book-related stuff. I had the idea of doing watches/rewatches of shows like Buffy and Farscape and blogging about them as I go. I might start a Tumblr rather than dilute the blog.

GET OUT OF MY HEAD. LOL!

I felt funny about diluting it, too. But then I was like fuckit.

But I do want a tumblr or something that I can feed into my blog but I can attach all my favorite book pics I see.

Speaking of blogs, a friend suggested to me the other day I shoudl start a blog. Apparently my mini-rants/commentary about the b.s. of corporate America I occasionally post on FB is funny...

But I worry I'd get repetitive really fast.

Plus, knowing me, I'd be all into it for a few months, and then post every now and again out of obligation, and eventually just let it languish entirely...
