In other news, I know that I'll enjoy reading

(Anyone else itching to wear their May The 4th Be With You t-shirts, 'cause this girl sure is!)

But seriously. THE NEVERENDING STORY. Seriously.
Congrats on the common law, Laurel!!!!

Depending on who you're talking to, playing video games past a certain age is weird, too.
And didja ever notice how movies are different?
For instance, I had this one coworker who would good-naturedly give me hassle for reading, and definitely for reading comic books.
But he'd be one of the first in line to go see a superhero movie.
And he never really even thought of the irony of these two things together until I pointed it out to him - but, still, movies get a pass.
It's totally arbitrary about what society deems acceptable and what leave you on the fringe - which is why I've decided to not care. ;) (Well, there's a part of me that does care... and there's the other part that says fuck it. Luckily that part's the bigger part.)

Meanwhile, I flabbergast a different coworker because he can't wrap his head around the fact that I don't like Big Bang Theory. *shrugs*

So, from what you have listed:
Elvenblood
Wild Cards
Ex-Heroes
Blackbirds
Red Rising- this is super popular and I think the ebook is on sale for $1.99
Pale Queen's Courtyard - he's Canadian nad I read a sample, pretty good.
The Crimson Campaign

So look who just got hitched. :-)
Congrats!

I'm 38, an avid reader, gamer and all around geek, and not only do I get the "aren't you a little old to..." but also get to listen to theories explaining that these factors are why I'm also single.
It never seems to occur to the busybodies (my mom's friends, mostly) that this is a situation that I'm PERFECTLY HAPPY WITH. If I tell them, they don't believe me. I'm not at all against relationships, haven't sworn off men, I'm just perfectly happy either way.
But then, I guess they're entitled to pick on me. Last time I was in Florida, at Christmas, I organized them into an official gang, and we carried out Christmas-related gang activities.

That's depressing.
Congrats, Laurel. :)

How did I miss this post??? CONGRATS!!! :)

You should have fun and make it all official with special marriage pens and take pictures and such. Have a wedding cup cake instead of a cake. ;)

Of course, if I mention cake, he'll get pretty excited...

:-D

That's the best kind of relationships in my opinion.

Which is why I always do the touristy horse carriage rides when we visit places that have them, 'cause my folks would never let us.
And why I bought a pair of rollerblades a few years ago. (Though I nearly killed my ankles, so they don't come out much.)
And an RC plane.
And the best thing about getting a house was being able to decorate it our way.

Anyway -
We went to see 'Winter Soldier' today. It was pretty good. Some badass fight scenes and car chases - though some of the fight scenes relied too much on the super close shaky cam thing.
I disagree with some of the reviews I read saying it was the best of the Marvel Universe movies thus far... but I definitely liked it better than the first Cap movie.
***
And in unrelated news - Jer bought me my very own stuffed Grumpy Cat today. :D
I plan on taking it into work, though I doubt most people there will know who she is.

Or...
"Oh, I've seen that online... what is it anyway?"
Or the ever popular...
"Is that for your neice/nephew? How nice of you."
:)
I find the secret of being young at heart is to never give up what makes you happy. So yeah. Nope. I'm never growing up. ;)

So I stopped on my way into work at the gift store to buy a bottle of tea. In the line ahead of me was an older gentleman - I'd say 70s or 80s. When he's done and turning to leave, he looks at me and seems to be checking me out. This is the conversation that followed:
Guy: Well, hello. You're looking pretty good this morning.
Me: Thanks. (thinking 'is this guy flirting with me?')
Him: Not as good as me, though.
Me: *laughing slightly* Of course not.
Him: You laugh. Here, let me show you something. *starts to pull out his wallet* You think you have it made, don't you?
Me: Not really...
Him: *finishing pulling out his wallet and showing me a picture of a younger man who might've been considered good looking back in the day* Here. Now, who do you think that is?
Me: *with a smile* I'm going to guess it's you.
Him: Damn straight. I'm a dream boat.
Me: *thankfully being finished with my purchase at this point* Okay then. Bye!
Him: *as I'm leaving he turns, I presume, to the guy at the counter* Did you see that? I'm a dream boat!

I had a random encounter two weeks ago (not a bad one) at Boston Market. I ran in for lunch and was really hungry, so I got a three piece dark instead of two, with potatoes and green beans and corn bread.. So there was this big guy working there.. Not fat-big, just tall and stocky big. He was probably in his mid-forties. He seemed a little awkward and nervous, just kind of looking down and cleaning off tables.
I asked the guy at the counter for some butter for my corn bread and I guess he heard me, because he came over to my table and shyly asked me if I had ever tried honey on it and would I like him to get me some. I smiled and said no thank you.
So I proceed to plow through all of my food. I was seriously hungry. As I finish, he wanders over and kind of blurts out (like he had been practicing it) "I didn't know models were supposed to eat that much."
LOL... It was sweet. I mean on one hand, I felt like a pig for eating so much. On the other, he complimented my weight and was trying to say I was pretty. Totally made my day.. I feel like the older I get the less I get hit on. Not that he was hitting on me.. But I felt totally hot the rest of the day :D

I've never really been hit on as such. Unless you count old men insisting to take their underwear off when I ask them to pull their trousers off. (I work in a hospital btw, or that might sound dubious...)
I don't think it counts. ew.

This story made me tear a little. I love that librarians (and reading) changed a life.

WElcome!

I just got back from my public library and I'm feeling a little sentimental. :)

:-D
I never hid in the library - ours was waaaaay to open for that - but I spent so much time there (in HS) that I had access to the media closets. The librarians were never concerned about me, lol (we had to be monitored while using computers/internet). I was going to be found someone head down in a book. :)

LOL! :D

Noted.

What about when I run out of books I want to read? I'm pretty sure that would be followed by some sort of major event...

That would be called "death".

That would be called "death"."
lol

I pre-ordered Black Hat Jack: The True Life Adventures of Deadwood Dick, as Told by His Ownself. Limited edition.
Then today I get an email that they've released the Cover for the Limited Edition. :-(
And it looks like this:

The damn main character is the guy BEHIND the man with the beard! WTF, man??! WHY is the MC the secondary person?? :-(

That's what I'm thinking. It's kinda making me upset because the Trade version has the MC in the front.

I feel like writing.. something. Short story? Something. But unfortunately I'm pretty sure I'm not good enough to write a good story so instead I'm just sitting here being frustrated...
Also considering looking into doing some translating freelancing but have no idea where to start... And again I'm not sure if I have what it takes as I have no education in translating...
*sigh*
Ok rant over now, Lol :)
Hope you're all having a great day! :D

You should write it down anyway. Don't worry about the quality - it's about the purge sometimes. And you never know...

I'm sure fantasy is popular out there. Well, fantasy football.
Not serious.
I bet tons of them play fantasy video games and watch fantasy movies. Reading just isn't super popular in general.
