Dawn (caveatlector) | 1796 comments I didn't realize there were so many. Though the first one would fit in this challenge nicely. I might have to fit it in the next section.

Marcus | 868 comments Well, I'm off and running with the roadrunner books so far having just completed: By Schism Rent Asunder and The Grand Inquisitor

Continuing with the nautical theme that many of the books in this section of my reading challenge have, I'm working my way through Desolation Island before returning to the Void trilogy. I love a good Aubrey/Maturin book when I'm in the right mindset. I'm saving the next one in this group for my trip to Key West next month :)

message 103: by Marcus (new)

Marcus | 868 comments Finished: Desolation Island which I didn't like nearly as much as the other books in the series. Hoping things pick back up with the next one.

Starting: Monster Hunter Vendetta and The Temporal Void

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments For MHI #2 you don't want food or drink in your mouth when you meet the gangsta gnomes

message 106: by Marcus (new)

Marcus | 868 comments Finished: Monster Hunter Vendetta which was very entertaining. I'm def going to read the rest of this series

message 107: by Marcus (new)

Marcus | 868 comments Finished: The Temporal Void

Moving right on to The Evolutionary Void to see how the story ends and starting The Fortune of War this weekend while I am in Key West to set the scene for some naval action.

message 108: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments Hi Marcus! I just finished The Fortune of War last week. I recently discovered this series and love it. I can't wait to get to #7 but I have other books to finish. Enjoy!

message 109: by Marcus (new)

Marcus | 868 comments Great! I'm glad you are enjoying the series...I'm really looking forward to "The Fortune of War" with the Americans being more involved in the plot this time it should be interesting.

message 110: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments There were some interesting things brought up about the prisoner exchanges that make me want to learn more about the war of 1812. Are you reading the series or listening?

message 111: by Marcus (new)

Marcus | 868 comments Reading and really enjoying "the fortune of war" so far. I grew up near one of the main sites in the war of 1812...Sackets Harbor, NY so I really like reading about it

message 112: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments I always forget about Sackets and its history even though I've been around the sites.

message 113: by Marcus (new)

Marcus | 868 comments Yeah Sackets is one of my fav places to visit whenever I'm home...good seafood, good beer, water, can't beat it

message 114: by Marcus (new)

Marcus | 868 comments Finished: The Evolutionary Void and The Fortune of War which were both pretty fun.

On to: By Heresies Distressed to finish up the Roadrunner's group of books

message 115: by Marcus (new)

Marcus | 868 comments Finished: By Heresies Distressed to wrap up Roadrunner's Racers

Favorite of the group: Monster Hunter Vendetta with honorable mention going to By Heresies Distressed and The Fortune of War

message 116: by Marcus (new)

Marcus | 868 comments Starting Taz's Trouncers with: Dauntless to explore a new space opera series and Monster Hunter Alpha to continue the fun-filled monster slaying adventure

message 117: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60069 comments Congrats on finishing Roadrunner's Racers. When you finish Taz's Trouncers, make sure you let me know in the "I'm finished a section, give me a badge" section so that I don't miss it. :)

message 118: by Marcus (new)

Marcus | 868 comments Finished: Monster Hunter Alpha which was pretty entertaining

Yay shooting up monsters

message 119: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments His grimboir chronicles are quite good also. Nothing like mhi at all. Again he builds things so each book gets better as you understand the characters more. It is definitely fitting of grimnoir now that I understand the definition of noir. And that series is complete with the 3 books. Monster hunter has a fifth book out later thus year and I don't know how many he plans to write total.I have a lot of correia books still to check out. I like his uniqueness and ability to write such different books.

message 120: by Marcus (new)

Marcus | 868 comments Yeah I def plan on checking out more stuff by the author just because he seems to be able to tell an entertaining story with some really creative elements (eg: his version of the origin of werewolves). Also, he really knows his stuff when it comes to guns also which is kinda neat.

message 121: by Marcus (new)

Marcus | 868 comments Finished: Dauntless which was short but fun

Starting: The Forever War which kinda had me at the first chapter so I'm looking forward to the rest of the story. Also waiting for Storm Front to show up in the mail and then I'll jump into that as well. I've got a lot of shorter fun stuff in Taz's section to lighten things up a bit.

message 122: by Marcus (new)

Marcus | 868 comments Finished: The Forever War which was kinda quirky but fun

Starting: The Rats and the Ruling Sea which is the second in a nautical fantasy series which I have been enjoying so far and still waiting for Storm Front to see if the Dresden Files catch my fancy enough to get me hooked on yet another series

message 123: by Marcus (new)

Marcus | 868 comments Finished: Storm Front and had a lot of fun with it.

Still working on the rest of this group slowly while also winding my way through the "Song of Ice and Fire" series again just for fun. "A man has said"

message 124: by Marcus (new)

Marcus | 868 comments Finished: The Rats and the Ruling Sea which was fairly disappointing

Starting: The Burning Land and Monster Hunter Legion for a little variety

message 125: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19221 comments Glad you enjoyed Storm Front. I don't think the second book is as good, but I'm loving the third, and by all accounts it only gets better from there!

Nice...Amazon gave me a deal on the kindle versions of books 2-7 or something for $2 a piece so I got them hoping I'd enjoy the series

message 127: by Esther (new)

Esther (nyctale) | 5201 comments Dresden is the book equivalent of candy for me. Ghost Story Is the only one I did not get into.

message 128: by Marcus (new)

Marcus | 868 comments Finished: The Burning Land which was entertaining as expected

On to Monster Hunter Legion and Death of Kings to finish the challenge...I anticipate lots of dead monsters and Vikings before the end :-)

message 129: by Marcus (new)

Marcus | 868 comments Finished: Monster Hunter Legion which was as fun as the other books in the series.

Next up: Death of Kings and then once I've finished my re-read of A Storm of Swords, I'll wrap up the challenge and move into infinity with A Mighty Fortress

message 130: by Marcus (new)

Marcus | 868 comments Wrapped up: Death of Kings and digging into A Mighty Fortress in the home stretch

message 131: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19221 comments I've now added Monster Hunter International thanks to you Marcus.

message 132: by Marcus (new)

Marcus | 868 comments Great! I hope you like the series as much as I have.

message 133: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19221 comments It does sound fun, and it's great when a series can keep being fun over several books. Pretty high recommendation!

message 134: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (caveatlector) | 1796 comments Good choice Rusalka. It's a great series!

message 135: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments And if you can get Oliver Wyman narrating on audio Rusalka its great

message 136: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19221 comments I never heard of it until now... Living under a rock it seems. And thanks for that rec on the audio book Travis.

message 137: by Marcus (new)

Marcus | 868 comments Finished: A Mighty Fortress to polish off Taz' Trouncers....on to infinity

message 138: by Marcus (new)

Marcus | 868 comments A Mighty Fortress was my favorite of the group with Monster Hunter Alpha being a close second....

message 139: by Marcus (new)

Marcus | 868 comments Not finding anything to fit into the monthly reads so I've been reading the Safehold series and adding it to my infinity list. Pretty good books all around

message 140: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (caveatlector) | 1796 comments How did you like Blood Song?

message 141: by Marcus (new)

Marcus | 868 comments Blood Song was pretty entertaining I think. I'll def be checking out the rest of the trilogy

message 142: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments If I ever get caught up somewhat with the books I have I'll get on that safehold series

message 143: by Marcus (new)

Marcus | 868 comments Yeah I hope you enjoy it as much as I do...it just has the right mix of military action and political "machinations" that really appeals to me

message 144: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (caveatlector) | 1796 comments You definitely should Travis. It's a great series!

message 145: by Marcus (new)

Marcus | 868 comments After running through Safehold for now...switched it up a bit with prize winner Angle of Repose which was really nice...my wife and I listened to to the audio version while travelling

message 146: by Marcus (new)

Marcus | 868 comments Just finished: Heroes Die which travis recommended. Great story with lots of action.

message 147: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19221 comments Hope you enjoyed your trip Marcus. Go somewhere nice? Haven't heard of that book, I will check it out.

message 148: by Marcus (new)

Marcus | 868 comments Oh well I do outreach work once a month in Helena, Montana which is about 3.5 hours from where we live in Kalispell so we've started doing audiobooks to pass the time while traveling. I've been listening to Swan Song on audiobook when I travel on my own which has been great so far.

message 149: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19221 comments Kalispell is an awesome name for a city. Great way to travel. We have started doing that too, except we can't plug phones into the car at the moment, and so we have been using earbuds. Which is fine until I need to head check :P

message 150: by Marcus (new)

Marcus | 868 comments Ha yeah...I got a cheap audio converter for my phone which works ok but I use headphones when I go solo
