This is a children's or YA science fiction book from probably 1950's. I really only remember a few things. I think the boy's family lives on another planet or the moon. They felt like it's too long to wait a whole year for Christmas so they have a holiday on June 25th (halfway in between). And there's a scene where the boy is concentrating really hard (everyone else might be in bed?) trying to make something lift off a table or dresser or desk. He succeeds eventually.

Daphne, did you read in the 50s or later? Remember anything about the cover? Also, do you remember the main plot? Was it about the family surviving on the planet/moon? Has it humorous, serious, mysterious, etc?
I read it in the 80's. I only said it was from the 50's because it had the same feel to me as The Runaway Robot -- which now that I look is the 60's. I don't remember the cover except maybe it had line drawings?The main plot was about the telekinesis and what was causing it. I want to say that the boy's father was involved in investigating something mysterious (like a rock?) and the boy overheard it. I feel like the boy keeps it a secret but later his parents find out? This is all pretty vague though.

Was the alien boys hair blue? Did he have a best friend?
I thought he was human, just living in a colony on the moon/Mars. He might have had a best friend.
