Simon (Highwayman) (highwayman) | 4276 comments I've just driven up to Edinburgh for a couple of days. I booked a cheap single room at a best Western and got upgraded to a huge double en suite. Off for a beer and then a stroll to The city.

Simon (Highwayman) (highwayman) | 4276 comments Off to see Roslyn chapel tomorrow. Been promising to go there for years.... Before Dan Brown got his hands on it.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Took two threads to tell us that? Sheesh.

Why you there?

Oh and have you tried the steak place yet?

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Why didn't you let us know Simon? Some of us could have come and got lost in pubs with you

Simon (Highwayman) (highwayman) | 4276 comments I didn't know I was coming until 11 o clock this morning....

Simon (Highwayman) (highwayman) | 4276 comments Oh. I don't know how that happened. I seem to have cloned.....

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments I believe the word is clopned.

That post should be in the sex thread. Tsk.

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Maybe Simon needs a blow up doll as well.

Philip (sarah) Willis | 4630 comments Have you found the Christmas market yet Simon? If so, have a hot spiced wine for me please!
What a shame we didn't get to arrange a meet up!

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Naw.

I bet he's got the fluffy cow in his car.

Simon (Highwayman) (highwayman) | 4276 comments Just about to walk into the city. Will look for the market.

Simon (Highwayman) (highwayman) | 4276 comments Patti (baconater) wrote: "Naw.

Cow no longer in car. Finally let it out when I sold the car...

Simon (Highwayman) (highwayman) | 4276 comments In Bennets Bar. Nice little pub.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Traded it in for a shaved goat?

Philip (sarah) Willis | 4630 comments Just heard on the news that the trams will have a trial run in the town centre tomorrow Simon.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Hmmm.

Seems I could have got a direct flight there from here.

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Philip (sarah) wrote: "Just heard on the news that the trams will have a trial run in the town centre tomorrow Simon."

I predict a riot.

Philip (sarah) Willis | 4630 comments I'm sure you'll find a pub to shelter in!
The market and ice rink are in Princes Street Gardens, you can't miss it as there is usually a big wheel there.

Simon (Highwayman) (highwayman) | 4276 comments I have found the hot toddy market. This place is awesome... Pubs and hot toddy. Why didn't anyone tell me about this before?

Simon (Highwayman) (highwayman) | 4276 comments Been on the big wheel and the thing that goes up and spins. Will pop along and see the trams if I can. Thanks.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Probably because they were afraid you'd show up and lower the tone.

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Simon (Highwayman) wrote: "I have found the hot toddy market. This place is awesome... Pubs and hot toddy. Why didn't anyone tell me about this before?"

Because they were afraid you would never leave...

Simon (Highwayman) (highwayman) | 4276 comments We need a group Piss up get together up here

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments I concur.

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments You conquer?

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments You should go to Clark's Bar Simon, in Dundas Street. Quality beer. The Doric Tavern in Market Street used to be good, but a long time since I was in. It's upstairs. And the Cafe Royal circle bar is great to look at. You can have oysters at their oyster bar.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Gingerlily - Smiter of idiots. wrote: "You conquer?"

That too.

And conker, no doubt.

Philip (sarah) Willis | 4630 comments Have you found Rose Street yet Simon? It's nickname is the 'Amber Mile' due to the high number of pubs there.
A hospital I worked in many years ago did a sponsored pub crawl there, literally on our hands and knees between hostelries.
Would be great for a meet up as it has many connections with literature!

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments I'd love another meet up in Edinburgh. I love Edinburgh

Simon (Highwayman) (highwayman) | 4276 comments Oh great. Rosslyn chapel is closed with a power cut. Off to the castle instead but very disappointed.

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments That's a shame, it's well worth seeing :(

The castle is excellent too though, and the Camera Obscura nearby is worth a look for a "range of optical experiences"

It's £20 to get in, and you have an Australian offering to tell you about Scottish history! Nothing against Australians, but £20 to get in!

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments I've not been to the castle but I've done Holyrood.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments I've done Hollywood.

message 37: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments I've done Holywood! Not that there was much to see or do...

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments I recall having a steak in a restaurant there that would have fed a family of six.

Dave and I shared it and we barely managed to dent it.

Jay-me (Janet) | 3784 comments Jud (Disney Diva) wrote: "I've not been to the castle but I've done Holyrood."

I've done the Castle, Holyrood, the toy museum (is that still there? ) saw the statue of Greyfriars Bobby, and also went to the underground buildings.

message 40: by Philip (sarah) (new)

Philip (sarah) Willis | 4630 comments I'd like to do the Ghost Walk and the underground streets tour.
The Botanic Gardens are wonderful but not in this weather.

message 41: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments I went to the toy museum last year, I also did Greyfriars and a ghost walk and a tour of the whadyecallums under the streets where they put all the poorest of the poor.

I'd like to do St Mary's Close (the underground city/streets)

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments I did a Ghost Tour a couple of years back, it was good fun. Don't believe in all that stuff at all bur gave myself a hell of a fright in one of the candlelit underground vaults when I felt something brushing against my hair. Turned out to be the ceiling.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments We did a ghost walk in London.

We all gathered next to a building at the beginning of the tour and as the guide began his talk, a bird flew into a window and fell dead in our midst.

Was freaky, man!

message 44: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments The vaults that's what I did, the ghost walk took us through the vaults. I just about peed my pants at the time and then couldn't believe I'd been so daft once we got outside again, our guide was very good at creating the spooky atmosphere

Simon (Highwayman) (highwayman) | 4276 comments Oh dear I am going to have to come back as there is a lot I have missed. Enjoyed the castle nd the 1pm cannon. Everything is expensive though.... £16 to look around the castle is a bit steep.

Simon (Highwayman) (highwayman) | 4276 comments Still, when they get independence the Scottish zlotti will be worth didly squat and my English pounds will be worth loads....

Oops... Controversial... But Edinburgh looks like it is thriving, why risk it for a bit of national pride?

message 47: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21812 comments closing the bunker door carefully and hiding under the table here!

message 48: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments My national pride doesn't affect Scotland or it's independance

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments I still say they should join forces with Quebec.
