So are we adding every book referenced or mentioned? Because I thought the point was to read what Rory read... the last example were books that Rory SHOULDN'T read according to Lorelai. It's cool if that's the case, but my vote would be for those she read. (Saying this as a participant, not a moderator.)

I don't think goodreads does customizable shelves for groups yet, but that's a good idea if they ever change things.

Have to say, I don't have much interest in reading books that were specifically trashed on the show, but that may just be me. I don't have a problem reading other books favorably mentioned though.

Tuesdays with Morrie really wasn't as good as the hype might indicate.

I don't see any harm in putting some of those books on there. It's not like we have to read every book on the list. And I think it is highly unlikely we will nominate or choose Who Moved My Cheese for the monthly book read. I think those books were the exception as opposed to the rule. Our group should have a little sense of humor ;)

I agree with those who support books favorably mentioned on the show. I mean, the list is long enough as it is and I'd like to read all the good books first so I'd be able to converse intelligently with all of you. LOL

That said, I do think that sometimes GG does a little too much of pop culture trashing. But then again the show has received some trashing of its own, being brushed aside as "sappy" or "too girly".

Michele could you please post the spreadsheet if you still have it to the google group site? I can't imagine there would be that many books we haven't read yet. Also seeing all the books on the spreadsheet will be an easier way to pick monthly nominations. Maybe we could create some kind of group access wiki where we list all the books by episode and the narration their referred to in - yeah that would be cool. I haven't seen them all organized together like that. Enough rambling here...........

My two cents:

Since we tend to pick two books every month - we could stick to the first book being from the 'official list'. We can use the others (mere mentions, trashed, or cited authors) to widen the selection for the second pick.

I'm kind of the mindframe that I would like to get through her official list before we hit up other books.

We really need to be able to customize bookshelves here! Come on Otis! hee

Oh, and Heather. Two words - Milwaukee's Best. It's what all the poor college students drink in desperate times! heh (Be warned...I believe this is the worst beer ever made...but it's uber cheap...I don't know for sure on the taste though as I have never had to reach to such depths of desperation.)

In the mean time...maybe someone could just do a post in this folder or somewhere, listing all the books on the group bookshelf, editing it to keep it up to date? I have a bookshelf myself with all of this group's books on it for quick reference, but a post here would be even more convenient.



Must admit I'm not a big beer drinker either. I'm much more of a Hornsby's cider and White Russian girl. My first impulse was to buy everyone a margarita, actually, but I had a feeling that would get expensive quicker than beer. My second thought was jagermeister shots, but again can't beat the price of beer. So beer it is.

There's this long story...I'll abridge. We had this friend who refused to drink it because it was "too cheap." So my husband blindfolded her and made her drink the beast and a Budweiser, and she couldn't tell the difference. Poser!! HAHA.

Heather - glad you like the group wiki idea. I think I may look into this a little more. If we could all put our Gilmore Girl knowledge together I think we could come up with a pretty comprehensive book site. And I love the white russians. I feel like "the dude" when I order one up. For christmas when my family came over I made these for everyone and called them white christmases. Tasty!

Alison - oh yeah we called it "the beast" too.

I'm not a beer connoisseur but I have really learned to love stouts, which I used to think were too heavy. Now I absolutely adore some Guinness.

white christmases...heh. cute. I think I'm gaining a better appreciation of beer as I get older. I used to hate the darker heavier beers, but now I actually prefer them sometimes for the flavor.

I agree Erica, that order sounds good to me too. We could even do episode discussions to go with it! Perhaps once the wiki is up it might be more feasible though.

I was also just comparing my shelf list to the group list and noticed a glaring oversight - no Howl on the group's list! Jess would be heartbroken.

To sort, you just click on the column title at the top (such as 'title' or 'author'). It sorts alphabetically, forwards and backwards. Now we just need to get them to list more than 20 books per page...

I'm not sure if searching shelves is a feature yet either.

With as many members as we have, we have no idea if someone just adds to a group and then decides to make "changes" without really knowing what the group is about.

Well I'm not sure what to do about it because if you do an "add book" it says it's already on the shelf, but when I look for it on the shelf, it's not there. I tried re-adding it, and it didn't work. So it's some weird nanny glitch. (Always blame the nanny.)
