Which Janet Evanovich book should I read first?

I have never read a Janet Evanovich book and was wondering where I should start? I know she has several series do I need to start with book one or can I jump into any books in the series?

I would recommend starting with "One for the Money" and following the series. Stephanie Plum (and the rest of the cast of characters) are an absolute riot. You will fly right through them : )

The Alex Barnaby and Lizzie & Diesel books are cute too. I didn't care as much for her romance books - they lost a lot of the humor that makes her so fun to read.

I like the Stephanie Plum books the best. and you should start with One for the money, fast easy read. It is easy to keep them in order One for the Money 2 for the Dough etc.
I also really liked the Heist and its short story prequel Pros and Cons.

Must start a One for the Money. The relationships build as the books go along. In the later ones a lot of the humor is based on what you already know about the characters. Agree that the romances are not that great. If you ever do audio books I'm told this series is very funny in that format.

I agree with what everyone is saying. Her best series is by far the Stephanie Plum novels. I also like her Wicked series (first book is "Wicked Appetite"), it's pretty good.

I'd add don't read too many back to back or they become same book different title. Laugh out loud books, One for the Money is first and I'm guessing the only one they turn into a film after the disaster movie of it ;)

Hey mouse- I've read One for the Money and laughed my ass off though, for some reason, (adult HDA...Oh look, a bunny), I didn't get to Two for the Dough but my mother and sister are big fans of the series and both are up to Takedown Twenty. they've been harping on me to read them, and I will...soon! Maybe next summer when I'm brain dead from the prior school year but I do what to get to them. Right now I'm sporadically reading The Prey Series by John Sandford. "One for the Money" is in the discount books at Books a Million I will pick it up next time I am in.

I was a fan of her romance books too... they're pretty funny and all at the library. If you go to her website www.evanovich.com it'll give a synopsis and what order they were written.

One for the Money. Here other series don't have quite the same magic. Her early romance books are pretty much the formula of the time--but a step up from average.

Julie Moffett writes a zany series that is similar in style/craziness. Karen Cantwell does a good job with the same type of humor with a middle-aged protag.

I went to my favorite little book store that is over run with Janet Evanovich books and picked up "one for the money". I have went down the rabbit hole of Philippa Gregory and about half way through the Cousin Wars. Then, I am reading "The Painted House" but I am super excited to kick start this series.

I would go with One for the Money, so far it is my favorite. I also really loved the audio version of that one book.
