It would have been nice to be me as well, and to have written all the other things I wanted to write but did not have the time for."Wow. Great answer.
What does your daughter think about your books? Does the fact you're her father seem to influence her reaction to the stories?
You've always struck me as someone who is comfortable in his own skin, a very good place to be in life.
Renee wrote: "I love all your books. I found American Gods and Anasasi boys to be some of my favorite reads of all time. Any plans for more in that series?"There's more AMERICAN GODS coming up one day -- Shadow's story is not done yet. But ANANSI BOYS is itself.
An hour has passed already. I suppose we should wrap up here. Thanks so much for taking time to answer questions and chat with us, Neil. I'm sure I speak for everyone when i wish you continued great success in your work. Thanks for the difference you've made in our lives through your writing.
Karey wrote: "What does your daughter think about your books? Does the fact you're her father seem to influence her reaction to the stories? "I don't think so. Maddy had never read all The Graveyard Book, and I found her the other day reading it for pleasure and sunbathing. And a couple of days later she told me she cried at the end. She seems to separate the author from the father pretty well.
Mostly I suspect it just lowers the odds that she'll become a writer, because she knows how unromantic a profession it truly is, mostly consisting of wandering around in a ratty bathrobe glaring at people and pleading incoherently for tea.

Karey wrote: "An hour has passed already. I suppose we should wrap up here. Thanks so much for taking time to answer questions and chat with us, Neil. I'm sure I speak for everyone when i wish you continued grea..."Yes, thanks so much for chatting with us! And best of luck in the future!
Wow, it's like we've all been in the presence of royalty for an hour. How exciting! The last time I felt like this was when I watched the President's motorcade whiz by.
That was so much fun! What a wonderful mental picture.....may actually have to photoshop ratty bathrobes and tea cups over all of my pictures....well, anyway, that was great! Thanks Karey! Thank you Neil Gaiman!
I am absolutely starstruck right now. Thank you so much to anyone that had a hand in this happening. Thanking the Great Gaiman goes without saying.
Yes, thank you, too, Karey for all your work on making this happen. And, I agree, Kandice. I am feeling starstruck, too, and a little giddy.
And Karey, YES, special thanks to you my friend. We're so glad you were able to work this out with Neil.

that almost made me snort my tea
You're welcome! It WAS too short and I wish it could have lasted longer, too. I'm looking into the bathrobe and tea as a thank you. I'll keep you all posted. ;)What do you all think of sending him real live paper thank you notes? If so, I'll be happy to collect them and send them in a packet with or without the robe and tea, pending a response from his assistant.
You can send the notes here by the 1st of July: (I'll be really busy after that)

It's a "go"! His assistant thought a robe and tea were a lovely idea. I'm waiting to hear back on favorite color and what kind of fabric. I'm starting to feel like a clothes designer. ;)Does anyone want to go in on it with me? Say, $1.00, $5.00 or $10.00 a piece? (Easy amount to send in the mail wrapped in foil for security reasons). I'll then include a picture of the gift here on this thread.
Lots of times, so I hear, when actual bills are sent through the mail they get stolen by mail clerks. Foil makes it impossible for any sort of machine to see through and see what's inside. Strange, huh!
I'd pitch in and would really like to write a note of thanks. Would he be able to read it? Maybe not, but the intention would be clear:)
Kandice wrote: "I'd pitch in and would really like to write a note of thanks. Would he be able to read it? Maybe not, but the intention would be clear:)"He sure will be reading it. It's all being sent directly to him. :) And could we make it $1, $5, or even $10? (I'll fix it on my earlier post). I'm not sure how many of us will be pitching in, but for those who can swing the $10 it will make a difference. Lots of thanks.
and no worries bill and fiona. how about just a note of thanks? . . . i'm typing with one hand while eating so no capital letters
I wouldn't mind chipping either.Fiona you should send tea since you're in England and have a hold on the good stuff.
I would love to chip in, too! I can certainly send money, but PayPal is very convenient, quick, and safe for sending money. Karey, have you used PayPal before?
Karey, I think the notes and the gifts are a great idea! Definitely count me in. I'll send the note and $10 out in the next few days to the address you provided.
I've only used Paypal a couple of times. What would you suggest for those who don't want to send cash Luann?
Karey wrote: "I've only used Paypal a couple of times. What would you suggest for those who don't want to send cash Luann?"Sending a check? It's safer for sending through the mail, but an extra step for you cashing the check. PayPal is the safest way, but not if you haven't used it to receive money before. I've used it a lot to send money, but only once to receive it. The fee they charged for receiving the money made it not worth it for me.
Karey, I am leaving for vacation this morning and will be gone until July 5th. When are you sending the stuff to Neil? When do you need the money? I thought I'd get it sent before I left, but I haven't. I will take your address with me and try to check my email while I'm gone. That way I could send it to you if you need it before I get back.
No worries, Kathy. I'm busy with Dr.'s appointments (I've got some sort of infection and my white blood cell count is through the roof. I sleep all the time!)I'll aim to have the thank you notes, tea and robe sent by late July. I gave the first of July as a deadline to give folks a time frame. My son will be out mid-July, so I want him to be a part of mailing it off. He'd really like that. Cheers! And happy vacation!
