I wish you luck on your goal... you know as you progress you can up the amount. I have a friend who is really busy too. She bought a kindle and on her way to work and home she plays the audio and is able to read by listening... The voice on the kindle is a bit generic but she said..."I'm use to guy and its so sweet he reads to me each day " lol just a thought...

I use my kindle to play my books to and from work... I work aways from my job and I read at lunch time.... while waiting on trains and for my son to get done from practice....it adds up

message 173: by [deleted user] (new)

I don't know if this is true for anyone else ,but I was a much faster reader when I was younger . The older I get ,the longer it takes me to read a book !

message 176: by gautami (new)

gautami | 25 comments Many of my friends ask me how do I finish so many novels?

My reply to them:

1) I read at a very fast pace.
2) I carry a book everywhere
3) I do not watch much of TV
4) I make time for reading
5) I have also started reading e-books on my laptop as I do not own an e-reader till date
6) For me reading is not a chore but a pleasurable activity

message 177: by Stuart (new)

Stuart | 4 comments Looking at some of the goals in here makes mine seem extremely modest, but I have never been a heavy book reader.

I started my 2014 challenge today, and set it at 25 books. The vast majority of these will be books I should have read while at School, with a few buddy reads and couple random books.

Currently says I'm one book behind. However, I am almost done with Of Mice and Men so will be right back on track come tomorrow.

Stuart... I think your goal is just fine... We all lead different kinds of lives and different amounts of reading time... I am thrilled if a person sets their goal to read at least one book this year... enjoy the reading you do... that is what is important.

Its not really low-ball and the great part is you can always raise the number or... simply meet and exceed your goal.. good luck.. happy reading.

that's true for my boyfriends mom for example.. she says that when younger she could finish 2 books in a week.. now takes her a 2 weeks for a book.. so maybe that's somehow true

I love the idea of those monthly reading challenges! I wish that my teachers had something like that when I was a kid. The library held yearly ones for the Newbery Award books, but that just wasn't enough for me.

It will be a mix of both fiction and non-fiction and in case of fiction serious socio-political or historical fiction it will be.

happy reading to all
