Hey all -
We need a better name for our writing contests! We can't just keep calling them "the first contest," "the second contest," etc. Well, we could, but that would be boring.
So please, post your ideas for what these contests should be called! Here's another way to think about it: when you're writing about your best or favorite story, and you describe it as "the winner of the ...", what kind of fun or important-sounding name should be used to finish that sentence? : )

Looking forward to hearing your ideas! (Oh, and just post them below, please.)

Dana

Lot (lot1) | 21 comments For the first contest I suggest to be called "Tales from the writers mind" or " The storyteller contest"
I'll think to another names when I'll have more energy and chocolate...

Excellent suggestions - anyone else have ideas they want to throw in the ring?

What about the Writer's Mark? As in a mark of distinction, or mark of honor.

message 7: by Lot (new)

Lot (lot1) | 21 comments I've been thinking and I don't know how this sounds...what about the honor of a writer?

message 8: by Dana (new)

Dana Smythe | 273 comments Mod
It's a little long...but it's interesting...I don't know, I'd have to think about that one for a while longer. Writer's Honor would be the other version, but that seems to imply something a little different, so I'm not convinced it's any better. What do you think, Grant?

message 9: by Grant (new)

Grant Jolly | 48 comments I don't know. What about an acronym? That could be pretty cool?

message 10: by Dana (new)

Dana Smythe | 273 comments Mod
Hmm.
A.A.H. (an author's honor);
W.C.W.C. (writer's cafe's writing contest, or writing contest by the writer's cafe);
T.W.M. (tales from a writer's mind);

Any of that sound interesting? Or should we just pick a fun word and then turn that into an acronym? : )

message 11: by Dana (new)

Dana Smythe | 273 comments Mod
or J.A.S.C. (just a story contest)

message 12: by Grant (new)

Grant Jolly | 48 comments T.W.M sounds cool :) or the W.C.C (Writers Cafe Contest)

Jack, any thoughts?

message 14: by Grant (new)

Grant Jolly | 48 comments P.O.P (power of the pen)

message 15: by Dana (new)

Dana Smythe | 273 comments Mod
Oh, incidentally Grant, would it be cool with you if I used "Write Night" as a future event name? I don't think it works for the contest, but it gave me an idea for a group event that I think could be fun.

message 16: by sᴏᴘʜ|☂ (new)

sᴏᴘʜ|☂ (nowoffish) I quite like P.O.P

message 17: by Grant (new)

Grant Jolly | 48 comments Yeah :) that would be awesome! We done a contest at university; we started writing at 12am right through until 12pm and the best story won. I wanted to call it 'Write Night' but it got called something else :( haha

Dana Smythe | 273 comments Mod
@Grant - that's actually pretty close to the idea I had, so keep an eye out for that. : )

@Sophia - welcome to the discussion!

@general - I like the Power of the Pen, but I'm not in love with the acronym version...probably because of the pop vs soda debate in this part of the world. : )

What about Laurels and Lines? Is that too fancy-shmancy? Or just too girly for that matter? : )

message 20: by Grant (new)

Grant Jolly | 48 comments That would be a cool contest to do on here, Dana :)

I was thinking so - I'm already getting distracted, figuring out how it would all work, so if you've got any ideas or suggestions feel free to PM me. : )

message 22: by Grant (new)

Grant Jolly | 48 comments I'll have a think about it tonight and get back to you :)

message 23: by Lot (last edited Dec 01, 2013 02:08PM) (new)

Lot (lot1) | 21 comments An atractive acronym...hmmm how about a simple one like hmmmm I don't know exactly how to explain...what about W.F.W.C.(write for world contest) or J.W.&W( just write and win)...these are not my brilliant ideas but I'll think more at a great acronim

Someone suggested the Quill and Whistle to me yesterday - what do people think of that? : )

message 25: by Grant (new)

Grant Jolly | 48 comments Pretty cool :)

message 26: by ✿ αzzι ✿ (new)

✿ αzzι ✿ (azziplz) I quite like it... :D

Excuse me for being obtuse, but where does the 'Whistle' bit come in?

message 27: by Grant (new)

Grant Jolly | 48 comments I was kinda wondering that myself :P

I had the same question - apparently it's whistle as the signal for the start of a race, or in this case, contest. Y'know, the "Ready, set, go!" sort of noise.

I know, it's as serious stretch - but the name is kind of fun nevertheless.

message 29: by ✿ αzzι ✿ (new)

✿ αzzι ✿ (azziplz) Haha, yes, that makes sense now :D

message 30: by sᴏᴘʜ|☂ (new)

sᴏᴘʜ|☂ (nowoffish) lol. I like it!

Okay, so I think we've had some good ideas. I've created a poll, and now it's up to the group to pick our winner. So everyone go out and vote for their favorite! : )

message 32: by ✿ αzzι ✿ (new)
