The Case-Book of Sherlock Holmes question

You don't have to go through the previous books to read this one Natasha..Go ahead and have fun:)

It can be read as a 'stand-alone', but as far as i remember it sometimes referes to some of the previous books.

And it is not one story, it is a collection of short stories. Usually Watson (the narrator) starts the story by telling when the story takes place (related to the other stories).

I would recommend you to read the books chronological, but it is possible to read the last one first.
