Hi I'm Jenn and have recently discovered Phantom of the Opera. My daughter was watching the 2004 movie in her 7th grade English class and I happened to find it on Netflix. I'm a huge Gerard Butler fan so of course when I found out he was Erik, the Phantom I had to watch it and can I just say Oh my goodness!! I fell in love with it the first time I saw it and so far have watched it almost every day since, I ordered the DVD and the soundtrack from Amazon and have the Phantom theme song as my ringtone. The music is just awesome and I listen to the cd at least once a day. I think it's safe to say that I've become obsessed with Phantom , oh and I was very not happy that Christine did not pick him in the end. I totally would have picked Erik. I've requested the book from the library and can't wait to read it.I'm happy I found this group:)
I actually came across that book yesterday and downloaded it to my Kindle, going to read it after I read the original Phantom. I've heard great things about it too.

Ahh yasss! A Phantom of the Opera group!Hi everyone. I only recently just watched the 2004 film which led me to read the original novel this past month. Boy had I been missing out. Of course I had heard of the story, but didn't know any of the wonderful and mysterious details. I'm so glad I just happened to watch it one fine day at random. And now it's safe to say, this story has taken over my life. I'm in love with the music too, the songs have been stuck in my head since I watched the movie. Yes, I'm obsessed. It is just such a heartbreaking and tragic tale of acute misery and desperation, but also one of love, redemption, and compassion; if only at the end.
How can one not but feel sorrow and pity for the Phantom who "would have been one of the most distinguished of mankind" if it were not for his appearance. Ahhh... I know in my heart that Raoul is the better choice for Christine, he is all goodness, but... the Phantom, I can't bear to see him so heartbroken. It hurts my heart every day thinking about it, I know he's fictional, but I can't help but care and wish him to somehow be with Christine, perhaps in an alternate timeline.
I'm right there with you. I play the music almy every day, just have to hear it to make my day better
Welcome Kelly! You've certainly found a group that agrees with your enthusiasm about the story! Love, love, love it!

Once you've seen the play ( 5 times for me ) or watched the movie..you get hooked. But no matter how many times I listen to the music..it totally moves me..:):)

I'm dying to see the play and the older movie adaptions as well. I know what you mean, the story and music are both so enchanting :)
I'm 37, but I became obsessed with PotO my junior year of high school. I was a drama student and we were on break from rehearsing for the school musical and someone put the original London cast CD in the player and my god...it was like an electric shock. I had to know what it was, who was in it, where could I find more info. I've seen Phantom 9 times, own every version on film, have read the original and Kay's version countless times and just discovered that a lot of my favorite fan fiction and 'zine writers now have published books!
I started writing my own lengthy PotO inspired book 14 years ago and finally got it finished and published, though it doesn't go live until January 1st.
An Eternity of This: A Phantom of the Opera Tale
I was really excited to find this group. A lot of the old Phantom groups I followed back in the mid 2000s have since dissolved or are no longer working.
Hi Amanda
