Chapter One (view spoiler)[ I found the first two pages very confusing. I was introduced to too many characters without much background. I found the author's use of pronouns made this extremely confusing. I think I can relate a lot to Cath. The way she interacts with people is quite similar to the way I interact with people. This made the first chapter very realistic. So far, I would give this book a rating of 4 stars. (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 1 & 2: (view spoiler)[So far I'm liking this book. I really love Cath already because I know the same awkwardness she feels. I'm freaked out by people just as much as she seems to be. There have been a lot of characters mentioned so far which got slightly confusing because they were introduced and then a description was later on but it came quickly enough so it hasn't hindered the story. I have to say I love everyone's names. Cather, Wren, Reagan, Levi, even the unknown (best?) friend (boyfriend?) Abel. Such awesome names!! I'm definitely excited to keep reading! (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 2-4 (view spoiler)[ The question Professor Piper asked her class got me thinking. Why do we write fiction? By reading Cath's answers, I now know she has a humorous and sarcastic side. In chapter 4, I can start to see Cath coming out of her shell. I understand that Reagan makes her uncomfortable, but I find Cath "brave" for confronting her. Again, I think the pronouns make this book rather confusing. In addition, there are many new characters introduced in these three chapters. (hide spoiler)]

another thing is am I the only one who thinks Simon Snow is another name for Harry Potter??
Third, Levi is a really different character even though he looks really familiar to me because of 5SOS' Luke Hemmings (am I the only one???) He is sweet and looks out for Cath even though she doesn't want to and I really think something is going to be happening between them, even now when Reagan is claiming that he is not her boyfriend..
Nick on the other hand doesn't seem like more that a friend to Cath to me but idk plot twists may happen (hide spoiler)]

That moment they had with Cath was so cute and I really really like Levi. The way he just smiles at everything and looks out for Cath is really nice.
And Reagan, oh god, Reagan surprised me so much with stayin calm and being a good friend. Bit*h on the outside but a good heart on the inside. Surprising.

okay, Reagan is so mature I am very surprised! I still think she feels jealous about Levi but I also think she likes Cath a little too much to bother thinking about a boy.
Levi, on the other hand, is so thoughtful and considerate and good looking (duhh) that he just gives me feels and I really think there should be more boys in this world like him. I love how he manages to think about everything and enjoy life to the fullest. I am in love with his character!
And lastly, Cath really changes throughout the book but still kinda stays in her comfort zone and I like how passionate she is about her writing! I love people who stand their ground and Cather is definetely one of them!

Initial thoughts: This books is not how I thought it would be. Cath is definitely not how I thought she would be. People are always saying that she's relatable because she's also a fan but it's different. She's not as much of a reader but more into writing and her reason for her obsessive love for Simon and Baz seems more personal. She's a darker character and I'm thinking it's gonna take some time before I understand her.

I really like Reagan. She fun and I can relate to her a bit. And Levi's... really happy.

It still sucks how Cath is having to rethink so many things. I'm hoping she'll understand and move past it. And I'm being mean but, Cath quite literally needs to get a life. (hide spoiler)]

Mystery, all this fanfiction is totally new to me, I actually had to ask my daughter if this actually exist, LOL!
And yes Cath needs to relax of it, I understand her feeling responsible, but condemning everyone else are having a good time, she is definitely not relatable to me at all not at my older age nor at my underage, we would not have ever been friends, for sure!
Having said this I am finding this book very good, I was more of her twin sister in college, and I have kids this age and they are superduper social so I really don't understand, but it is still a good book.

I don't read fanfiction, especially reimagined (I like to stay with the original stuff) but I know that gay fanfics are huge. I'm a very big Supernatural fan and I know for a fact that the internet is crawling with Destiel fanfiction.

I feel I've read the book too late, but it was still like the best book I've ever read. I haven't read a book that just makes me cling onto it, even after it's finished. Like I reached the end, and I was so sad. I was on the verge of tears because I didn't want it to end. I wanted to know more about Cath and Levi and Wren and their dad and Lauren. Like what happens to her? And what happens to Courtney? And what happened before Wren ended up in the hospital?
There's just so much to know and I just don't/didn't want it to end.

I started reading the book. And well, it is addictive. I'm reading Crown of Midnight which is also addictive. So, I'm in a sort of a dilemma now as to which book to read. =P

Anyway, coming back to the book, I'm enjoying it so far. I'm already on chapter-7. See! It's that addictive.

I totally understand Cath. Being nervous about meeting new people..... that's like me. At least, those are strangers. I sometimes feel nervous meeting my *certain* relatives.

And Wren. She reminds me a little bit of my younger sister. Being happy to meet new people and making new friends in no time at all......

I'm surprised at how good Cath is at writing Simon Snow fan fic. I thought she might be good, but she seems to be brilliant!

I sort of like Reagan and Levi. Don't know what to make of Courtney, though. But, I don't think I like Wren. There's something off about her. Not the sister I expect.

I wonder what happened to their Mom. There's absolutely no mention of her till now. It's all Dad, Dad and Dad everywhere.

I'm about to start chapter-24. And, I'm completely loving the book. It's so good!

It made me feel good that Cath met (view spoiler)[ one of her fans in real life. Especially, after that F she had seen on her story. It made her feel appreciated and happy.



Cath needs to widen her horizons. (view spoiler)[ She just can't give up fiction writing because she feels that fiction-writing is not the thing for her. Of course, it is the thing for her. Professor Piper is so right. When Cath can do wonders with characters that aren't even her own, then of course she can write her own splendid characters. This made me wondered what makes me feel happy. I guess, exceling at something, being appreciated and reading books. What makes you guys happy? (hide spoiler)]

What happened between Cath and Levi, and Cath and Nick wasn't good. For one moment, it feels like you have everything and the other moment, everything seems to be falling apart.

I guess, my complaint of "no mom" has been looked after to nicely. Their past has been brought on-stage, now. I understand how Cath feels like. And, I understand Wren, too. But, putting myself in that situation, I don't know what I would have done. What would have you guys done?

About Cath's dad...... it did feel like he will be super sad and lonely when the girls go to college. But, I didn't anticipate that illness. It makes me wonder how deep the scars given by Cath's mom go.

I feel the same. There are too many questions roaming around my mind. And I want all of them answered. In a way, the ending was a bit unsatisfactory. I desperately need the answers to all my questions!

Cath and Wren were obsessed with Simon Snow books from childhood. Reagan had also read them. And, Levi's father used to read Encyclopedia Brown books to him. Isabel, did you read any books as a kid? If so, is there any you are still obsessed with?

I'll start with the answers. I started with Famous Five and Secret Seven series by Enid Blyton. Famous Five is the closest to my heart. After all, those were the first books I read. Like Levi, I had also read Encyclopedia Brown books. And, I would be eternally obsessed with the first three Harry Potter books. They have the children's element. But from HP 4, you can't call it a children's book. :-)

1. Is this your first book from Rainbow Rowell? If not, what others have you read and did you enjoy those?

1. Earlier this month I read Eleanor and Park and I found it okay. The writing style was easy to get into. Fangirl is on a different topic so I'm excited to see how this goes
2. I used to write some fan fics based on my favourite stars on this site called Winglin and I used to read a lot of them as well! Good times :)
