Ripley's is having trouble finding enough weird artifacts. They should have bought them up when our American Dime Museum closed a couple of years ago.

Sarah | 13814 comments I haven't ever been to the Ripley's museums, but I loved the Dime Museum.

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments Heh. That's fascinating...they should have hit up the Museum of Questionable Medical Devices before that closed, too.

You know what I kind of regret? Last time I passed through South Dakota I didn't stop at Wall Drugs. But that's more tacky than odd.

Sarah | 13814 comments How about the Corn Palace? Tacky and odd.

message 5: by Usako (new)

Usako (bbmeltdown) That's because the casino industry has bought all the auctioned weird stuff before Ripley's!

Remember the potato chip and piece of toast that looked like Jesus?

Shit, just take a drive in the South, stop by some of these dilapidated houses that pepper the landscape, and you're bound to find many an oddity.

Me thinks Ripley's isn't looking hard enough.

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments Ooh...the Corn Palace is BRILLIANT. I've been there times. Maybe four.

Here's the Corn Palace Webcam:

Sarah | 13814 comments I think they're all on TLC, actually.

message 10: by Usako (new)

Usako (bbmeltdown) *giggles* On TLC *giggles*

Found a website devoted to showing you odd attractions around the US. Great summer trips to plan on the weekends nearby?

This one cracks me up. Noah's Ark

Sarah | 13814 comments I always try to stop at the weird places whenever I can -- dinner in a restaurant shaped like a sombrero on Route 66, etc...

message 12: by Dan (new)

Dan Schwent (akagunslinger) Roadside America is one of my favorite websites. Every time my girlfriend and I go on a road trip, I look for strange attractions along the way. They've used a couple of my photos and tips in the past.

Leslie | 777 comments Anybody been the Uncle Remus place--Eatonville, GA, same town Alice Walker was born in.
That place is a real relic from the past.

message 14: by Usako (new)

Usako (bbmeltdown) Haven't been to GA cept for Atlanta and Augusta. That would be a good relic to see.

*tries to remember oldest relic seen* Hmm. A skeleton /like/ Lucy - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lucy_(Au...

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments I'm not entirely sure I believe Tanja is for real. We need a Tanja biography:)

Usako (bbmeltdown) Ahahahaha. Yeah. I am an oddity! OOOH! I could go into Ripley's for a day. SHORTAGE SOLVED! ;)

btw you did check out the books I've read? Shows my oddness. Oops! Forgot all those SW books.

Sarah Pi, you're in Baltimore. Have you gone to the Ripley's in Ocean City? I've walked by it but for some reason didn't go in that time. Arg. In retrospect I should have!

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments And a Tanja avatar. C'mon, Tanja, show us something beyond a brown silhouette!

message 18: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments Tanja-the-avatarless, I have walked past Ripley's in Ocean City but never gone in. My main concerns in Ocean City are usually:
a)frozen custard
b)really greasy pizza
c)skee-ball
d)flying kites

message 19: by Usako (new)

Usako (bbmeltdown) Sarah Pi: a-c agreed! d, never got to do :( But add on your next OC visit: Sightseeing. By that I mean sit on the edge of the boardwalk and observe the people walking by. I kid you not I saw this one dude with piercings all over his belly - it formed a down arrow to his EHEM!

message 20: by Usako (new)

Usako (bbmeltdown) THERE! Evil Plot Bunny - my first awesome avatar.

message 21: by Sarah (last edited Jun 18, 2009 07:54AM) (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments The evil plot bunny is indeed awesome. Well done.

I should have included e)people-watching -- agreed. That's what you do while eating your frozen custard and pizza.

Oh, and f)finding the absolute worst tourist t-shirts (not to buy, just to identify)

message 22: by Usako (new)

Usako (bbmeltdown) *LAAAAUGHS!*

Oh yes! F is best.

With E there's a warning attached. Be prepared to see rolls the likes never imagined.
