Winter 13/14 10.1 - Reading Resolutions
Thank you for this one! I'm not sure what mine will be yet, but depending on the rest of the tasks and the polls, it just might be to read a YA book that isn't "disturbing" ;) ----- though I can't wait to read some of them that are on that list!

The Wheel of Time moves on....and it's time I get back to that series. I've only read 2 of those books in 2013, and I have books 9 through 14 to go. I'll start this task with #9, Winter's Heart by Robert Jordan. All these books are 700+ pages.
I'm with you, Theresa, and I was very pleased when Liz brought up this task. Sometimes I start a big project and then something else shiny comes along, my head gets turned, and I'm off on another big project. So my Resolution for 2014 is to complete Emile Zola's 20-volume series Les Rougon Macquart. I have read 9 of them.
This is a great task! I'm not sure what my task will be yet since there are still more tasks to be posted. Since the 20 point tasks that have been posted so far have reading lists that have more male authors, I'm thinking of reading female authors for this task to get a good balance. Another idea would be to read some books set in Canada since I picked up a bunch at a used book sale recently.
I've decided on mine! I arrived at school this morning and looked over at my display of National Book Award candidates and there are 6+ I want to read, so even if some fit other tasks, I'll be good on this:Read books nominated for the National Book Award in the Young People's Literature and/or Fiction Categories on the longlist or finalist lists.
I am good at reading new authors and series, but not so good at continuing with the ones I like.My task is to read the second book in a series of which I read the first book before 2013.
This is surprisingly easy (and it has to do with series, too, because I'm desperately trying to make a dent into my 50+ ongoing series):Read another book from a series you started prior to November 1, 2013.
I need to put some dents in some of my shelves. One that is overflowing is memoirs/biographies/autobiographies.My task is to read books shelved as memoirs/biographies/autobiographies.
I need to stay motivated to read books relevant to my work as a trial attorney. To that end,Continue/complete Trying Cases to Win.
I LOVE the library... a bit too much.My task is to read books that I already own on my personal shelves.
I reorganized my TBR shelves based on AVG RATING in Ascending Order, leaving out the 0.00 books. My Reading Resolution is to read the Books #1, #2, and #3 from this list. These are some low ratings--maybe I can help them improve! HA
Thanks for this task and giving a chance to repeat 3 times. This task and 20.6 are like opening Christmas gifts or getting a gift certificate from your most favorite store! Now the decision; work on my series?, try to read more of the books on our Group Read Bookshelf? or I know!
After reading all the Pulitzer Prize novels, I had planned to tackle the Man Booker Prize winners. I've only worked on it in a slap dash manner, so I think I'll get a bit more serious.
My resolution is to read Man Booker Prize Winners in Fiction.
I was thinking I would pass on participating this time, but this task came along. I do have one resolution: Complete Les Misérables by the end of February. I have been trying to read this book for a couple of years. I think I am the only one checking it out of the library!
I think this is a wonderful task!I started Terry Pratchett's "Johnny Maxwell" trilogy this year (YA).
My Reading Resolution is, to finish the trilogy (#2, #3) before March 1st. And as an additional YA novel (although the last for quite a while, I suppose), I read the one I have borrowed from my literature professor and should give back in February anyway.
#1 Johnny and the Dead by Terry Pratchett
#2 Johnny and the Bomb by Terry Pratchett
#3 Across The Barricades by Joan Lingard
my reading resolution is to read more of the true classics - three pieces written before 1000AD. i'm shooting for latin and greek, but early medieval works too. ;-)edited to ask: one of the plays i'm looking at, Frogs by Aristophanes, is between 70-90 pages depending on edition. would it be acceptable for this task?
Heather wrote: "edited to ask: one of the plays i'm looking at, Frogs by Aristophanes, is between 70-90 pages depending on edition. would it be acceptable for this task?..."Maybe. The most popular edition on goodreads for this title is....unreliable. I can't confirm the pages through worldcat (my usual double-check for questionable page counts in the goodreads database).
Do you have your hands on the actual edition you'd be reading? Does it include an introduction, commentary, footnotes? Can you link to it here (search by the isbn in the add book/author pop-up)?
My reflooringresolution is to read more books that will help me complete other challenges. With the fall challenge I really focused on this one, so I'm behind in my challenges that I have going for other groups!
Liz M wrote: "Heather wrote: "edited to ask: one of the plays i'm looking at, Frogs by Aristophanes, is between 70-90 pages depending on edition. would it be acceptable for this task?..."Maybe. The most popul..."
hmm... it's not coming up on the pop-up, either. http://www.amazon.com/Frogs-Aristopha...
this is the version I have. amazon says it's 90 pages.
As I do every year, I want to change my Resolution--even before I've made it to Jan. 1. Is that possible??(If not, that's no biggie!--Most of these ideas are better than mine!)

Changes can be made through Dec. 31st.

Aha! The kindle edition is a reprint of this edition: Frogs. I will grant an exception for it, but if you can, please post a link to this edition when you claim it for points.
Bea wrote: "Liz, I think you skipped my resolution in post 18."And Jayme's in post 11. ;)
I didn't mean to overlook you, but I got interrupted before I could finish.
Jayme(the ghost reader) wrote: "Read more books off my tbr list."Jayme, can I make your resolution a little more specific, something like: "Read books put on my TBR prior to 1-Dec-2013?
Bea wrote: "I was thinking I would pass on participating this time, but this task came along. I do have one resolution: Complete Les Misérables by the end of February...."I love this resolution! But I don't want you to miss out on the other two freebies included. Do you want to try something a little more general that would include Les Mis, but also allow you two more books? Something like Read more classic books.....? Or Read big books? Or Read more translated works?
And everyone else, I have re-worded and/or paraphrased your resolutions in the first post. Please let me know if I accidentally altered your intent when doing so.

I will read some books that qualify for the virtual book box that I belong to. The qualifications are: "fiction, biographies, memoirs and travelogues set in Africa, Asia, Latin America or the Middle East or based on the experiences of immigrants from those locations"
I'm going to read the next book in three different series where I've already read the first book prior to November 30,2013. That will help me catch up on some favorites before I get distracted and start a new one!
Since I'm likely to receive books as gifts for Christmas and I have piles of unread ones already, my resolution is to read 3 books I already own (from my 'own' shelf). Ideally, they will also have been added to my list in 2009 when I joined Goodreads, since really they've been hanging out far too long.
I belong to several library book groups where the librarians choose the books for discussion. My resolution is to read three books for book discussions.
Read a book from the listopia list: Books Stephen King Recommends(This is not the same list that was used for a recent RWS task.)
Jayme(the ghost reader) wrote: "Liz, you missed my post. Post 11, to read three fantasy books off my tBR list."I responded in post 31. I asked if I could make your resolution a little more specific, such as Read fantasy books put on my TBR prior to 1-Dec-2013.
Awesome task! My resolution is to read more non-fiction - my autumn was busy and I fell into a fiction rut. :/
Just what I need! My resolution is read some of the books that have been on my actual bookshelf (not on my kindle) since prior to the start of this challenge, 12/1/13.
I have a stack of books lent to my by friends which have been gathering dust: my resolution is to finally dust them off, finish and return them!
