Jcbf19 This book is a great read. One of the best recommendations for this work is the number of positive reviews posted here in good reads by 21st century articulate men, considering the book is about a 12 year old French Catholic girl in 1697, and it is mostly a very human, benign tale about relationships. I think that is an interesting commentary that transcends stereotypes and testifies to the universal quality and meaning we find in what actually is a 'good read'.
I am stumbling around on the internet over Shadows because I am facilitating a class for middle-schoolers about this book and I am looking for a concise concept of the theme. I think it is the idea of facing and meeting the challenges of translating what is true, good, beautiful, noble high and holy, in the ways of the old world or old way or older generation and bringing them into the new- preserving and adapting them. The many aspects of the challenges, conflicts, methods, resolutions, and results are depicted over and over again in the different characters we meet as the seasons in progress Cecile's experience through the year.
