I'm looking for a book written in the early 90's about the world undergoing some kind of revolution/revelation about living better. The end result is people living in "commune" type situations, helping each other with different skills and voluntarily having only one child.

Any chance it could be The Gate to Women's Country? If not, is there anything else you can remember to add to the description -- like where the revelation came from (internal/external/alien/medically induced) or what the communes were like, or whether there was opposition to them, etc.?
