Rachel (raachcakes) | 6 comments One of my favorite books when I was a kid (early 90s) but I'm pretty sure it was published in the 80s or earlier. Children's book, beautifully illustrated.

There was a color thief.... a short gobliny man who ate color or collected it in jars? and a little girl who tried to stop him?

I think there's a tower involved and the girl eventually conquers him?

wow I don't remember as much about this one as I thought I did.

Rachel, are you still looking for this? Was it "The Rainbow Weaver" or "Rainbow Brite"?

Justanotherbiblophile | 1814 comments _Rainbow Weaver_ looks like it matches OP's request... except it's first publication date is 2007! That's almost 17 years away from when OP thought she read it.

Railyn (funky-rat) | 243 comments Long shot, but parts sound vaguely like the novelization of the Puff The Magic Dragon cartoon. There's a part where they encounter a pirate (who secretly wants to be a chef....yeah) and when Puff returns to his magic land, he finds it to be in bad shape - bland and colorless, and inhabited by weird creatures who are vanquished by feeding them chicken soup (made by the pirate turned chef). Then all of the color comes back to the world, and Puff returns the little boy to his world. Puff had sent the little boy away when he saw what his magic world had become, but the little boy tracked down the pirate/chef and came back to fight the weird creatures.

Rachel (raachcakes) | 6 comments Alright so still haven't figured it out... I remember that as the story progresses and the guy steals the colors, the illustrations become black and white. Then at the end when they're released there's an explosion of color! I think he carries them around in a sack...

Alex Smith | 1 comments I had a memory of this book, then went searching, and found your post. I know someone else already recommended this but I'd urge you to take another gander at The Rainbow Goblins.

I asked my mother and she remembered the name immediately. Goblins of different colors steal the colors from the rainbow, eventually being overwhelmed by a flood of color.
