The Rabbit
The rabbit has represented hope for a long time, by Chinese people. It is tender and lovely. The moon goddess Chang'e in Chinese legend had a rabbit as her pet, which stimulated the thought that only this creature was amiable enough to match her noble beauty. The Chinese character 'Tu' (rabbit) is part of 'Yi' (escape or leisure) indicating speed and distance. The Han people have a custom that a pregnant woman is not allowed to eat bunny for fear that the child will be born with a harelip. The newborn is given paintings of children and rabbits representing that the child will have a peaceful and happy life.

{Backstory}
He was born to Aqua a waterbender and Aalok an airbender. He was trained as a waterbender. And it was discovered that he was the avatar when he learnt how to earthbend at age 5. By the age of 14 he had mastered waterbending and earthbending and began firebending. He had mastered that a year later and began airbending. He struggled with airbending and has only mastered basic airbending. He connected easily to his spiritual side. He had contact to past avatars and soon learnt from Rava that he was an avatar because when avatar korra lost contact with the past avatars the cycle started again (Water, Earth, Fire and Air).

Biography/Background: Mai was born in the southern water tribe, she was the first water bender allowed to live in her family for once. She learned water bending when she was moved from the southern to the northern. She trained, with one of the best water benders there.
When she was 12 years old she moved to Republic city. She moved into a nice non bender family, who also ran an apothecary shop. She secretly goes to the pro bending arena, watching and learning new fighting styles.
During the time in Republic City, she ran into some trouble when shopping. She was getting new herbs for a sick man in their care. But, before she even had a chance to pay for them, she was attacked, she didn't know by who, they never said anything, they lashed out with water and fire, there were two of them. She could bend the water away, but the fire was a different matter, it got her right in the stomach, scarring her. They took the money and the herbs from her, leaving her there bleeding. She could heal herself only until she passed out from the pain....
She woke up again in the apothecary shop, she was being healed. They got the herbs in time to save the man, but Mai is never allowed to go into the marked alone again.... Her adoptive parents to scared for her to get hurt again.
Though she was attacked by a firebender, she is not afraid of them, she's not even afraid of the element, everything can cause pain, and everything can be dangerous, but there is good in everything if you just take the time to find it.
