The Thirteenth Tale
question
slow start?

I am enjoying this book but finding it a bit slow. Did anyone elses who liked the book find it slow in the beginning? Does the pace pick up?
Yes it does pick up Carrie so try and stick with it. One of my favourite books. Have just read her second one Bellman & Black and was quite disappointed. Like the first it was slow to start but never really picked up.
Oh NO! I was so hoping that Belleman & Black would be good! I'm going ot give it a try anyway but its good to know not to expect too much.
The book is slow paced but its very poetic. The narrative is one that pulls you in even if not much is going on.

I actually liked the first part the best, with all the great quotes about reading and writing. To me it was a little slow throughout, but rich and interesting.
This is one of my favorite books of all time and I do agree keep reading well worth it.
I listened to this one on audio and almost gave up on it because the beginning was so slow. I was very glad that I didn't, it gets so much better!
I think you could skim the beginning of the book and not really miss anything important to the overall story.
Diane Setterfield finally published another book? Despite the negative reviews above, I'm going to look it up now!

The beginning is incredibly slow. It definitely picks up though and thank God I'm glad I did.
This has to be one of my most favourite books ever.
It's AMAZING.
The BBC movie adaption is coming out next month!!

The beginning actually intrigued me and made me want to figure out where the story line was going. I am a part time librarian just now, but my dream job has always been to own an antiquarian book store, so I was hooked right away. I was anticipating Ms. Setterfield's new book and have ordered it for our library...I truly hope it does not disappoint. In any case, read 'The Thirteenth Tale' to the end. Wonderful story!
